Post Miami desperately needs a speedster ... Jacoby Ford anyone?
Miami has had Jacoby in for 2 visits, and he certainly fits the bill of the type of WR that Bill Parcells would like. While he is on the short side of 5'10, he is unbelievably fast and plays tough. Reminds me of Percy Harvin that way. Doesn't shy away from contact, and makes plays accross the middle of the field.

He's got a lot of return ability as well. If he's there in the 3rd round and Miami was able to trade down and aqcuire the picks we gave up for Marshall back, then I can easily see us pulling the trigger on him.

Thoughts?

I would much rather wait later in the draft, much later to take Trindon Holliday. Ford has great speed, but he has been injury prone while at Clemson and he is like Ted, not a complete WR that has not been asked to run the full route tree.

With Ginn gone, Miami has zero speed offensively at WR...or anywhere for that matter. Jacoby can be that all purpose guy offensively who can give you a few good plays a game.

Let's face it, we do need a replacement for Ginn.

Id rather take Holliday later on in the draft. We need Defense with our first few picks

How fast was Jerry Rice's 40 times?

Not saying that it is not nice to have speed. For a WR I think that route running and aggressively catching the ball is more important than flat out speed.

Brian Hartline runs what a 4.52 with a low of 4.44 in the 40's. I think that is enough speed to stretch the field if you run a good route.

Does Ryan Grice-Mullen have some speed?

Grice Mullins is a return specialist though, Frusterated.

Jacoby would bring a dynamic to the offense that Ginn was not able to do, IMO.

I am just so happy that we got Marshall that any additional wide receiver talent would be like having two Christmas days!!!!!!!!!! :yay:

Getting Spiller or any other play maker on offense would be great, but I think the defense will probably be the focus of our draft.

I dunno..sure a speedster is nice but not a must in my eyes, don't you think a pump fake to marshall running a slant on the same side of the field as the guy running a deep route can give just as much separation as flat out speed?..

I don't think you guys realize how much defenses have to respect Marshall's underneath stuff..Trust me Marshall as even a decoy will make our receivers look faster than what they are

:yay:Good clips on both of those guys but my ? is, who will last till the 3-4 round when we go to pick. I really dont think we need speed that much to us our 2nd round pick on a (wr). Not unless we work out some deal and get more picks in the 3rd or please football gods the 2nd

Grice Mullens is already on the team.

Ford should be available in round 3.

He wasn't on the team last season. We signed him back in February. He's coming from the CFL.

I ask again. Who do the Colts and Saints have at receiver that runs a sub 4.4 40?

I would have to say speed is manly good on punts and kick offs. As far as playing (wr) full time you just need to be quick, quick in and out your routs. If you can do that then it will look like you are faster than alot of ppl. Welker seems to be open every play and he isnt that fast. Wayne seems to be the same way,its all about how fast you make your 1st or 2nd move. Now speed and quickness will kill any D,(i.e) Harven. If they think Ford is like that then get him.

Sure, 4.4, but they made it to the Super Bowl without him. Henderson also runs a 4.4

wrong Devery Henderson is one of the fastest WR in the NFL he is a 4.3 guy. I would put money on it.

Is that the only source? Because I've got SI and NFLdraftscout reporting times of 4.43, and 4.41 for Henderson

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/footba ... 31957.html

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/ds ... &genpos=WR

And Meachem ran a 4.48 at his pro day and a 4.42 at the combine.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/draft/431497

http://tennessee.scout.com/2/628919.html

I'm finding a lot of contradicting sites, but only the one you posted says they ran anything higher than 4.41

It was actually the first site that came up, but just watch a game of him playing he is faster than everyone on the field. Name me 5 WR that are faster.

I'll name you several.

Devin Hester, Johnny Knox, Santana Moss, Steve Smith, Desean Jackson, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Ted Ginn, Yamon Figurs, Santonio Holmes, Randy Moss....

All of these guys are fast and run sub 4.4 40's. Ironically enough, only DeSean Jackson and Randy Moss head up explosive offenses.

I could keep going, but you get the point.

I disagree with most of those guys. Devery is faster than almost all of those guys. Jackson, Hester and Heyward-Bey, yes the rest of them are not faster than him.

If speed were that desperate Ginn would still be on the team and one of the possession WRs would have been traded. Kick returners come in the form of RBs and CBs as well as WRs, they can find one late in the draft or through FA. Ginn's blazing speed worked twice on the receiving end last season and one time it was negated by penalty. He had two kick returns for TDs, and both came in the same game.

Miami isnt going to do anything desperate. Ginn was just another falling domino, along with Porter, Ayodele and Wilson. They will continue to purge overrated and underachieving players. Brian Hartline did better than Ginn on medium and deep passes last season so perhaps that will be his assigned role. They'll find a return specialist.

As Iowa pointed out, you dont need blazing speed to run good deep routes. It helps, but if you can't get open and can't catch than whats the point? Bess, Camarillo and Hartline are all noted for their route running and football intelligence. I'm quite confident that with Marshall on board it will open up their ability to get more open on medium and deep routes.

On LSU's team page about Henderson it says he runs in the 4.3 im just saying he is capable of running that. I also think he is as fast as most of the guys you listed. We will have to agree to disagree because there is no point in arguing over something that can't be proven unless a foot race actually takes place.
