Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Saw this on PFT. Makes a heck of a lot of sense if Earl Thomas is there at 12. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -a-safety/

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
I see moves are starting to be made, I think moving back to the Eagles spot 24th and getting there 2nd round pick is a good deal. This gets us back in the 2nd round now

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
I think the Eagles would make a nice trade partner. Though I'd love for us to get Earl Thomas, I think I'd rather get a 2nd round pick back. Then we can still pick up 2 quality players in the first 2 days.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
I have seen were Philly may be interested in Joe Haden, the CB from Florida. Either way, getting the 2nd and multiple other picks from Philly would be nice.

Quote: 2010 Eagles Draft Picks Round Note 1 (24) Own Pick 2 (37) Acquired from Washington for QB Donovan McNabb 2 (55) Own Pick 3 (70) Acquired from Seattle in 2009 draft day trade 3 (87) Own Pick 4 (105) Acquired from Cleveland along with LB Alex Hall for CB Sheldon Brown and LB Chris Gocong 4 (121) Own Pick 5 (137) Acquired from Cleveland along with LB Alex Hall for CB Sheldon Brown and LB Chris Gocong 6 (200) Acquired from Indianapolis in 2009 draft day trade 7 (243) Compensatory Pick 7 (244) Compensatory Pick
According the the NFL draft value chart (not written in stone but used in general to help guide draft trades) Miami's 12 pick is assigned 1,200 points. The Eagles 24th pick is assigned 740 pts. Their 37th(2nd rd) is assigned 530 and their 55th(2nd rd) is assigned 350. If Miami was to trade the 12th to the eagles maybe we could get the 24th and 55th picks and possibly a late one thrown in. The 121st 4th round pick is assigned 52 points. Would that be a good trade or would you rather have Earl Thomas (if available)?

And with rumors that we are looking into sending Brown to Detroit we could even get a 2nd for him.

Morgan Burnett of Georgia Tech, Nate Allen of USF, Chad Jones of LSU, Reshad Jones of Georgia just to name a few. Give me the draft picks.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
If Cleveland sticks at 7, the Eagles will have to go above them (assuming Berry is off the board) to get Haden. That being said, 12 is too high for Thomas (IMO). I've heard the Eagles really like Major Wright from Florida. And they can easily get him in the second.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Miami cant really get greedy if this were to go down. You take their 1st and later 2nd rounder. Miami could get a very good player at 24.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
I don't see Cleveland going CB with the moves they made to acquire Sheldon Brown during free agency. They may grab one later, but not first round.
I have seen Joe Haden mocked a lot to San Fran at #13.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Well, Sheldon Brown was a nice pick-up. He's a good veteran corner. But they MUST get younger at the position. Haden is a shutdown corner like Revis and NA.

Haden is pretty good, but not anything too special. In any case, I agree with SC. I don't see them going CB in round one. To me, it comes down to Clausen, Earl Thomas, or a pass rusher if they have to stay at 7.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Take a look at the box scores against Florida this year. Pay attention to the No. 1 receiver from each team. Then get back to me. :-D

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Joe Haden is a very good football player and probably will be the 1st CB taken, but this is not college he will be dealing with, and I am sure not going to put him in Darrell Revis territory without even playing a game in the NFL.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Good grief, if the Eagles offer a 1st, 2nd and 2nd this year for the 12th spot you do it...I don't care who is on the board. This year's 2nd round has a ton of guys that are just as good first rounders in most years.

How about: "Haden [is capable of being] a shutdown corner like Revis and NA." Better? Can't say he will be as good as Revis is now - you are right. But that is his potential and he has a very high ceiling.

Not sure there is going to be a huge drop in talent from 12 to 24 in terms of guys we think Miami is targeting.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
Joe Haden is considered the best CB in this year's draft, and Mel Kiper has him at #14 on his Big Board. Mel also has him going to the 49ers right after our selection (#13), so, a team may want to trade up for him with us.

I would probably ask for an additional 4th or 5th round pick, but I'm with you, I don't think we need both their 2nd rounders. The Eagles have tons of picks. Two 2nd, two 3rd, and two 4th round picks. I don't think they'd mind giving up an extra 4th.

Re: Eagles looking to move up for a safety
I would do that trade in a heartbeat! Sounds too good to be true...though the Eagles have not been exercise much of their brains lately when you think about the fact that they traded McNabb within the division.
