 Here's something to think about
My buddy and I were having a conversation about the draft, and who the dolphins should take now, and he made a suggestion. He said move Sean Smith to Safety and draft Joe Haden in the first round. I dont know how Smith would do at Safety but it sounds like a pretty good idea, if Haden is still avaliable at #12 since he is a lockdown corner. Thoughts?

Not to rain on your parade but this has been floated a few times on here before and pretty much sunk.
Why do you think this would be a good idea?

Re: Here's something to think about
Actually there was quite a bit of speculation that he could be used at the Safety position, but we had Gerbel already. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that happen, but your right about his dismal tackling skills (that would have to improve).

Great idea. Move everyone out of position. Don't all the good coaches specialize in that on their way to Canton? Another bonus ... then we have to replace the CB which are several times more scarce than Safeties, that's why CBs make double or triple what a Safety makes. Brilliant!! We'll be drafting top five in no time!!

Re: Here's something to think about
I would hate to say this but, if you want to look at a plausible option at FS from our current roster it would be Vontae Davis.
We already know he has that hitters mentality. We already know he can cover anyone in the league. He has size and he has the speed to play the position. Just not sure if he could make the right reads. I would say between Davis and Smith playing free, it's pretty clear to me that Davis would be better suited at FS than smith.

Re: Here's something to think about
Wow. I really marvel at how everyone seems to think Parcells has this idea that FS must be a giant. These are some of the guys Parcells had playing FS for him. Dallas Keith Davis 5'10/193 NYJ Jerome Henderson 5'10"/194 Kevin Williams 6'0"/190 NEP Willie 'Big Play' Clay 5'10"/199 Myron Guyton 6'1/205 NYG Terry Kinard 6'1"/199
He did have some big guys here and there, like the 6'4" Pat Watkins, but even he weighed in at a slight 210.
Parcells does not 'like' 6'2"/230 guys playing Free Safety any more than any other coach. If he found one that size that could cover, I'm sure he'd be delighted. They're completely rare, and that's why he hasn't always had behemoths at the position.
Clemons and Culver 6'1"/210. Wilson who they brought in to play FS on a big contract is listed at 6'0"/205. Not behemoths.
As to finfan808's post, which came up when I submitted this so we were simultaneous, That is a very intriguing thought. However, Vontae is probably going to be needed where he's at more because of the uncertain status of Will Allen. WA is still the dreaded TBD on the NFL FA Tracker ('To be Determined', under the column 2010 Team). That and a recent incident with the law is troubling, and I think the two kids we have at CB are going to be quite a tandem for years to come. If we get Earl Thomas at #12 (now that Marshall's signing has squelched all those Dez Bryant rumors, who Denver will draft at #11), I think we will have an excellent secondary for years. Bell, Thomas, Davis and Smith.
Me likee.

Wow! That's the first time I remember doing that. I actually posted a response in the wrong thread. Then read finfan808's post, and juxtaposed it to where I thought it was.
Good lord, did I make some bad decisions in my youth...my faculties are shot.
