I wonder how secure Don Jones, and R.J. Stanford feel?

Randall and McNutt were the surprise cuts to me. Although when they brought in several WRs to tryout it should have hinted that they were looking for an upgrade on McNutt.

Rumors going around that Tennesse may release Nate Washington, he'd be a great pick up on a cheap contract.

Zero doubt in my mind that Rotoworld has an official axe to grind with Miami. They've given some analysis of every team's final cuts (the key player(s)) but with Miami's cuts they point out that last year the Jags Gene Smith was the last to announce their final cuts and he lost his job. All they say is Ireland is in the last year of his contract so he's obviously the new hot seat guy.

You honestly can't make this stuff up.

What a joke! I don't necessarily disagree with a lot of the points they make about Ireland but they're in no position to call for his job haha Stick to reporting the numbers Roto

I hope they have a FA in mind. I was cheering for Bumphis and McNutt. They must not have shown enough.

& if they're gonna follow through on their talk of using Thigpen, we sure didn't see any of it in preseason

We're clearly looking at WRs... no way we go into the season with only 4.

Surprised they didn't like any of those young guys though.

How does a team that runs the west coast offense keep only 4 receivers?

well since we cut 2 guys I wanted to keep we may as well look at these guys.

Danny Coale
Chris Harper
Tavarres King
Cobi Hamilton

all very talented receivers. Would have rather kept McNutt and Bumphis though.

just looked over our final roster after cuts, we kept too many linebackers and safeties. Some of whom I never see make any plays on the field. Would have much rather kept McNutt and Bumphis on the active roster.
Same goes for Devlin, they were predicting him to get cut and he didn't. This offense needs receivers.

So true. They must really be down on McNut and Bumphis.

I agree with you but he is a backup who really hasn't shown anything more.

Losing Bess and Bush are not my idea of saving money to make the team better...If we had Bush 4 wrs wouldn't be a bad idea..And with Bess we would be very solid at wr.

I agree there. It was about money and Ireland's desire to upgrade the slot position. Gibson found the end zone and was better after the catch than Bess. I guess the Dolphins just viewed Bess as a slot receiver. Also, I don't think the Dolphins were too pleased with Bess down the stretch last year.

Bumphis will be put on the practice squad along with Tyms if they clear waivers, I assume.

McNutt can't catch the football and is a 5th WR talent anyway. Tavares King is a way better option on the waiver wire, if he gets to our slot.

I watched him in the preseason and I wasn't too impressed with him.

I also agree on both your thoughts Dave. I know NFL players are not perfect, but as much as Bess was pretty reliable on moving the chains, his play did tail off last season and couple that with the behind the scenes comments that he wasn't quite all the way a Philbin guy, also led to his departure, but the overall facts are that Bess just did not benefit the Dolphins inside the red zone where they need to finish off touchdowns. Gibson looks to offer more in that area and I expect he will gain about the same amount of catches as Bess would have produced, lots of first down catches, but most importantly more touchdowns.

Philbin is big on character. Maybe they just aren't his kind of guys. Or they already have someone else in mind to pick up for WR #5.

I hoped for King but Denver just signed him to their practice squad.

Quote:
Dolphins waived TE/FB Evan Rodriguez.
They're moving forward with Tyler Clutts. Rodriguez was the 111th pick in the 2012 draft. He lacks a high ceiling and comes with off-the-field baggage.

Dolphins claimed FB Tyler Clutts off waivers from the Texans.
Clutts gives Miami more of a lead-blocker and special teams option at fullback than Evan Rodriguez. The Dolphins had already moved on from Jorvorskie Lane.

I like filling a few backup holes via waivers, but getting starters off waivers makes me nervous. Should have made a better offer to V. Leach

Last I heard Miami never made an offer.
