Rock, I don't disagree with anything you said. The Wildcat was a short term answer, and didn't hold up. But that doesn't take away that the Dolphins went against the grain, and it worked, if only for a year.
A lot of innovating is finding the right players, and then utilizing them correctly. The 2 TE sets worked for New England because they had two playmakers at TE. If we roll out Egnew and Clay thinking we'll bust the seems open, it's going to get ugly.
If Rodriguez is someone that can add a twist to our offense, we should get him on the field; especially if it's in a way that opposing defenses aren't seeing week in and week out.
Realistically though, I don't put a lot of faith in them to suddenly do an about-face with a perennial unknown like Rodriguez. This staff didn't even know how to use Reggie Bush properly in the passing game and he was a legitimate threat.
At this stage because of the time spent installing the offense as is, either the TE group (which they've drafted for 3 years in a row, albeit later rounds) needs to step up or the WR group which they spent a lot of money on needs to. In fact, even though I fully expect Wallace to get bracketed all year long now without Keller out there ....... he's the one that has to own this challenge the most. He's paid to be that guy. If he can't produce, then we'll know he benefited from Big Ben extending plays with his feet, Heath Miller up the seam, and Antonio Brown.
