Jonathan Martin is stuck in the middle of a what came first, the chicken or the egg debate, as everyone tries to decipher the Miami Dolphins' biggest riddle

Is Martin's early struggles as the Dolphins' starting left tackle a result of Oliver Vernon and Dion Jordan's prowess as effective pass rushers? Or is Jake Long's replacement not ready to protect Ryan Tannehill's blindside?

The Dolphins coaching staff openly admit they have no idea how to explain what's taking place in Martin's daily camp battles with the two young pass rushers. And the 10 snaps Martin took during Sunday night's 24-20 exhibition loss to the Dallas Cowboys didn't provide many clues.

In those 10 plays Martin was a forceful run blocker, but his defender did pressure Tannehill twice.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Martin isn't just the best left tackle the team has to offer. He might be the only one considering how bad Dallas Thomas ...

Behind Thomas there's Will Yeatman, a former tight end the Dolphins have been developing as a offensive lineman for two seasons, and Jeff Adams, who spent the final month of the season on the Miami's practice squad.

John Jerry started five games at left tackle in the 2011 season, but he's sidelined by a knee injury he had scoped two weeks ago.

The Dolphins are so uncomfortable about the team's lack of depth at left tackle league sources confirm Miami has been investigating veteran tackles who are free agents. ... ... ?track=rss
