This was the year that Long shut up all those who said he would only be a right tackle at the NFL level. Finishing top of all left tackles in our Pass Blocking Efficiency metric, he established himself as one of the NFL’s premier pass protectors.

13. Jake Long, 2010, MIA: +34.7

Pass Blocking: +23.3, Run & Screen Blocking: +12.0, Penalties: -0.6

For many, this will go down simply as a great year. Five perfect games in pass protection and some fine run blocking. However, the truth is it probably could have been better but for a mid-season injury Long picked up. That’s how dominant he was.

17. Vernon Carey, 2008, MIA: +31.9

Pass Blocking: +17.5, Run & Screen Blocking: +10.6, Penalties: +3.8

The Dolphins’ Carey would give up only 24 combined sacks, hits and hurries (by comparison Jake Long would give up 26 that year), while impressing greatly with his run blocking.
