Sportscaster, ex-Dolphin Jim Mandich battling cancer

Former Miami Dolphins player Jim Mandich said he's receiving chemotherapy and that his 'talk-show days are done' but that he would love to continue announcing Dolphins games.

My dad is a doctor, and while it doesn't specify the condition in the article, he says he knows what it must be and that it is 'very bad', but it's weird it happened to someone as young as Mandich as it usually only happens to men in their 70's+.

I love Mandich. Obviously there are more important things to worry about, but I would miss his radio calls on Sunday's. The guy cracks me up.

Phinfamily, Jim Mandich, the radio voice of the Miami Dolphins and a former player, is battling cancer.
He's a scrapper of a man and player, so just send some prayers.
Here are some of his nuggets, noteworthy (many) revealing:

He was our second pick (#29 overall, 3rd pick of the second round). Our first had been traded to Cleveland for Paul Warfield. He was the highest-rated TE of his draft, an All-American out of Meecheegan.

In the Perfect Season, Mad Dog scored a TD in each of the games against the Patriots. He also caught a 19 yd pass in SB VII that put us at goal-to-go.

In 1973, he notched a TD in the 1st round of the playoffs against Cincinnati. He finished his career with 4 rec. and 49 yards in Superbowls. This was as the #2 TE behind Fleming on a 40 runs-12 passes-or so-a-game team.

After his playing career, he went to the radio booth, and eventually became the color-commentator for the Official Miami Dolphins broadcasts (1992). His sometimes caustic wit combined with his unabashed observations have led to a popularity with many listeners, myself included. His Daily Show runs Mon-Fri from 4 pm E to 7 pm E here:

He with Joe Rose and Jimmy Cefalo are the current voice of the Miami Dolphins; all played for Miami in at least one Superbowl, and all are as passionate about the Dolphins as three humans can be. It shows. Their call at the end of the '07 Baltimore game is unreal...I still occasionally choke up when I watch the highlights. I don't care if that's wimpy.

Among his gems is his trademark slogan,
"AWwwwww-Rahhhhht Mi-AAaaaami".

He once referred to Nick Saban as a 'Giant Piece of Turd', and said publicly that if Saban walked in the room at that moment, they'd fight.

My best wishes go out to you, Mad Dog, and I hope and pray for your speedy recovery.
