Post Decoding Ireland on whether essential to select a CB early
Quote:
Ireland on whether it is essential to select a cornerback early: "I don’t want to say it’s essential. Certainly, I’m not going to pinpoint myself exactly where I’m going in the Draft, but I think a corner, I think corners can be selected and have an active role just about anywhere in the Draft. That’s one position that, they develop differently and you can find them, just like Brent Grimes, you can find them in free agency. You can find them in the fourth, fifth, sixth rounds obviously. I don’t think that’s particularly a position you have to have to take high.”

What Ireland's really saying: "Signing Brent Grimes took the pressure off at that position. I now have four cornerbacks with starting experience, so I don't need to reach on one in the first or second round. You can also find good cornerbacks later in the draft, especially this year seeing as how it is one of this draft's deepest positions."

Who is the second CB? It is still a big need.
And Ireland did also say that he wants to draft guys at the expensive positions, which includes CBs

Hate it or not, he is completely right. The Dolphins don't NEED to use a high selection on someone like Xavier Rhodes or Desmond Trufant. There are a few other talents that can be had in the second, third, or fourth rounds that I think would be just as nice of an option when you consider what not taking the top notch frees up for us.
