Post Trading down in the 2013 Draft
We have not discussed this option yet, but this is something the Dolphins have done in the 1st round before.

The value in this draft is in the 2-4th rounds, and by trading down, the Dolphins could acquire additional picks and possibly use them to trade up in the later rounds to get a guy they want or just add more talent.

Dropping down in the late teens to mid twenties could open up some nice options. TE Tyler Eifert makes a lot more sense here and you have player like DE Tank Carradine, DE Damontre Moore, OLT Menelik Watson, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, DE Bjoern Werner, CB Desmond Trufant to name a few that would be in this portion of the draft.

Something to think about.

Every team wants to trade down and no one wants to trade up, it's that kind of draft...

We should be able to find someone willing to trade up. Everyone has these players ranked in a different order, so inevitably there will be a team who is targeting a certain player and will want to move up to ensure that they get him before someone else (especially a division rival) grabs that player away from them.

I've seen mock draft scenario's where Miami can trade down with Minnesota or Dallas in the first round.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1597 ... i-dolphins

Minnesota receives picks: 1 (12), 2 (42)

Miami receives picks: 1 (23), 1 (25), 3 (83)

or

Dallas receives picks: 1 (12), 4 (74)

Miami receives picks: 1 (18), 2 (47)

Both of those scenarios are very intriguing to me. I like the idea of trading with Minnesota to have two first round picks and gaining another third round pick. We could probably end up packaging those extra third rounders to move up in the second if we wanted too.

The Dallas scenario is also intriguing, as I like only giving up a fourth round to get their second round pick. We could do a lot of damage in the draft with this scenario too.

I like those scenarios also.

If you go by Mel's big board, the trade with Minnesota would have us picking Bjoern Werner and D.J. Hayden with the 23rd and 25th picks. This is ABSOLUTELY something that I could live with.

Minnesota would be targeting Tavon Austin or Cordarrelle Patterson in this scenario and Dallas would be targeting Kenny Vaccaro.

Swapping our 12th pick with 23 and 25, along with a 3rd rounder would be a steal. The Cheats only have 6 picks in this draft and the media is still promoting the love fest they have for them. Miami has set this up perfectly, we aren't getting any positive recognition, but that sh*t will change if we do this right. This draft is going to be HUGE.

It would cost Miami its 1st round pick and the 2nd round pick at 42 to do that deal but I still think it would be a great deal if it happens.

Thank you bobby0112 for posting those scenarios. I had no idea what I was going to blog about today and that provided me with something. Much appreciated!

I tend to not like this scenario quite as much as the Dallas one. I think its because they give up a 1st and 2nd? I would see the Fins going with OT and a CB or TE with the 1st round picks.

I think I like this scenario better because they are swapping 1st's and only dropping down 6 spots while still gaining a 2nd. Then only losing an additional 4th. With this I believe Eifert would be the target in the 1st. Then with 3 2nd's they would go OT, CB, and DE.

I like both trade scenarios but if you do the Minnesota deal you're risking Eifert, Rhodes, Cooper and Austin being off the board. The Dallas deal might still give you a shot at one of them.

While I'm mostly convinced it was a smokescreen, the Dallas deal would give you and extra 2nd rounder to flip for Albert (I think KC holds him rather than deal for less than a 2nd).

Jam, I would be more than happy to see Miami stay right where they are and see who falls to them. This is not a team that still has holes to fill.

And you are right, smokescreens are hot and heavy this time of the year. Trying to figure which one is BS and which one are legitimate are difficult.

We all can only hope for a scenario where Ireland drafts smart. Holes and needs to fill are still critical to the future success of this team. Keeping Tannehill upright is imperative, but there are multiple holes that we hope get addressed between the draft and the rest of any available free agents that make sense to still snag.

Guess we shall if any draft day trades or moves happen for the fins.

It will no doubt be interesting as all of us are guessing what moves they will make and it is fun to see how this will play out in the end.

Yeah, this is a hard draft to guess because Miami doesn't have a glaring need that can't be solved with free agency or a trade, and there aren't a lot of elite top 10 talents that they can hope fall to them. The elites will be off the board by the 7th pick.

Post Re: Trading down in the 2013 Draft
The lineman in this draft unfortunately in my opinion were not the same caliber of a healthy Jake Long when we drafted him from Michigan. Trading down to snag one of those guys at pick #2-#5 or where ever they are projected is WAY too much to give up.

I would rather see Miami play hard to get with KC and trade a 3rd for Branden Albert and be done with it UNLESS somehow Lane Johnson lasts to pick #9 or #10 then maybe it is worth giving up a 4th or a 5th to get him.

Otherwise, I would rather see Miami either stay at #12 and get the high ratest guy on their board OR trade out to pick #20 range get an extra pick and get Eifert, the best tight end red zone threat and probably most complete pass receiver and blocker combo available.
