Here it is. With really nothing else to write about, here is my 3rd out of 4 mock drafts.

Analysis: And there it is. Bill Parcells had a lengthy 1 on 1 discussion with Dez Bryant on the second day of a 2-day visit he had with Miami. Bryant’s concerns are not with the law but with maturity and motivation. I think that Miami can provide the structure that Dez needs, and I think Parcells shocks everybody in Dolphin nation and goes with Dez Bryant at 12. Pass rusher, to me, is no doubt the biggest hole on the roster, but Miami will find it hard to pass up this kind of a playmaker to give to their franchise QB. This is more of a gut feeling than anything, though. Who really knows how that 1v1 meeting with Parcells went?

Rest of Miami’s selections:



2nd round (43 overall): Nate Allen, S, USF

I don’t see FS as a big priority, but I think that Allen has everything we are looking for in a FS. He can play in center field, and can play man coverage on a WR or TE. He can play near the box against the run, and has plenty of playmaking ability. He’s got the range to cut down some of the sideline passes that Gibril Wilson gave up last year, and is a great value at 43 overall.



3rd round (74 overall): Alex Carrington, DE/OLB Arkansas St.

Carrington really impressed at the Senior Bowl for Tony Sparano’s team. Miami has shown plenty of interest in him, and he has good value here in the 3rd round. Carrington wasn’t super productive as a pass rusher at the college level, but has a good combination of size, speed, and athleticism, and has a lot of upside playing in a 2-point stance as a 34 OLB, either on the weak side or the strong side.



4th round (108 overall): Brandon Lang, DE/OLB, Troy

Miami needs pass rushing help badly, and I don’t think that they stop once they have one guy. I think Miami goes out and gets 2 or 3 pass rushers. Lang had a very good Senior Bowl week, and will no doubt remind Parcells of another Troy product from 2005. Lang is a very physically gifted pass rusher who will excel in a 34 Defense. His athleticism might not be DeMarcus Ware’s, but he is a tremendous athlete.



6th round (4th in round): Jeff Owens, DT/NT, Georgia

Not as well recognized as his teammate along the line Geno Atkins, Owens is one of the better pure 34 NT prospects in this draft. He has tremendous strength and the perfect size for a Parcells NT, and enough athleticism to make some tackles in the backfield from time to time. Owens is tremendous against the run, and I think is a steal here in the 6th round.



6th round (5th in round): Sam Young, OT, Notre Dame

A huge, athletic OT with tons of experience. Look for Miami to spend a 6th round pick once again to look for that potential back-up to Big Jake on the left side. Gardener’s inability to crack the 53 man roster last season was disappointing, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him out of here by September. That said, the need for Jake’s back-up is desperate.



6th round (10th in round): Andre Neblett, DT/NT, Temple

Very athletic NT prospect that reminds me of Jay Ratliff.



7th round (5th in round): Jacques McClendon, OG, Tennessee

A massive guard who fits the mold of what Miami is looking for in their interior O-lineman. If Miami does trade Smiley, look for them to use a later round pick on an OG.



7th round (12th in round): Stafon Johnson, RB, USC

Johnson really impressed everybody, including Tony Sparano at the Senior Bowl, by coming back and getting out there and competing so soon after the injury. That shows a lot of character.

I don’t see FS as a big priority...

Excellent job, phinsy, as usual you examine it from a lot of angles and that's good. This is the only part I didn't agree with. Considering the total output of what you wrote, I agree with 99% of it.

Dave, I have not nagged you or anybody else on this board about Dez Bryant.

Now, now. Let's not be hormonal about this;)
