Re: Five Dolphins rumors for draft day
This is pretty cool, if anyone wants to try and figure it out.
Bill Parcells-led Teams' Draft of the first Rd-
NY Giants 1983 #10 Terry Kinard S/Clemson, 8-yr career & Pro Bowl 1988 1984 #3 Carl Banks ILB/Michigan State, 12-yr career & Pro Bowl 1988, Mmbr 1980's All-Decade Team 1985 #19 George Adams RB/Kentucky, 7-yr career 1986 #19 Eric Dorsey DE/Notre Dame, 7 yr career 1987 #28 Mark Ingram WR/Michigan State, 10-yr career and recipient of the Marino 'fake spike' pass TD to beat the Jets (one of his FOUR TD catches that day) 1988 #10 Eric Moore OG-T/Indiana, 10-yr career 1989 #18 Brian Williams C/Minn, 9-yr career 1990 #24 Rodney Hampton RB/Georgia, 8-yr career, Pro Bowl 1992, 1993
New England Patriots 1993 #1 Drew Bledsoe QB/Wash state, 14-yr career and 4 x Pro Bowl, 44k+ yards passing 1994 #4 Willie McGinnest OLB/USC, 15-yr career, Pro Bowl 1996, 2003 1995 #23 Ty Law CB/Michigan, 15-yr career, 5 x Pro Bowl, 2 x First Team All-Pro 1996 #7 Terry Glenn WR/Ohio State, 12-yr career, pro Bowl 1999
New York Jets 1997 #8 James Farrior OLB/UVa, 13-yr career, 2 x Pro Bowler, 1st team All-Pro 2004 1998 No 1st 1999 No 1st
Dallas Cowboys 2003 #5 Terrence Newman CB/Kansas State, 7-yr career, Pro Bowl 2007 2004 No 1st 2005 #11 DeMarcus Ware OLB/Troy State, 5-yr career, 4 x Pro Bowl, 3 x 1st team All-Pro 2005 #20 Marcus Spears DE/LSU, 5-yr career 2006 #18 Bobby Carpenter LB/Ohio State, 4-yr career
Miami Dolphins 2008 #1 Jake Long OT/Michigan, 2-yr career, 2 x Pro Bowl 2009 #25 Vontae Davis, CB/Illinois, 1-yr career, Led team in Ints (4) 2010...?
Pretty good track record, with only Carpenter seeming to be a bust.
Seven of the last nine 1st Rders have been Defense, while six of the first ten were Offense.
A total of 25 Pro Bowl bids.
5 have been LBs 4 have been DBs 3 have been OLs 2 WRs 2 RBs 1 QB
There were 10 picks @ #12 or higher, and of those 6 were Defense (and Glenn's spot would have been Defense as well). Four have been LBs.
I know the ParSparLand will do their best to befuddle and bewilder the competition as to their draft-day plans, but it seems unlikely that Miami would use that pick at WR with Bryant. Parcells was not happy with the pick of Terry Glenn that high, and Jones repeated Kraft's mistake in making Tuna take a WR he didn't want (with the TO saga).
I think it's obvious to most people that it is between NT and S for the first pick (except for those that think Dez Bryant should be brought in). If I had to guess, I'd say NT was the majority mindset (I am in the minority, but only because of Earl Thomas).
