Are Cowboys and Dolphins discussing draft day trades?
Quote: Are Cowboys and Dolphins discussing draft day trades? Dallas Cowboys Examiner Dan Telvock
A Miami Dolphins source asked me today if I had heard anything about the Dallas Cowboys talking with the Miami Dolphins about a possible draft-day trade that would move the Cowboys up to the No. 12 spot in the NFL draft. The source said he had heard it from someone with inside information on the Dolphins.
The Cowboys rarely move up in the draft, but since the release of safety Ken Hamlin and offensive lineman Flozell Adams, this might be the year Jerry Jones considers a trip up north in the 2010 draft.
At pick 12, the possibilities of landing free safety Eric Berry or safety Earl Thomas over someone like Taylor Mays are much more realistic. Wide receiver Dez Bryant would likely be available at the No. 12 spot, too.
But could the Cowboys move up in the draft and still keep their current picks, including No. 27, where they could shore up the offensive line?
The Dolphins showed interest Marion Barber two years ago, when the Dolphins picked up nearly every single former Cowboys player. Bill Parcells loves the guy and so does the Dolphins head coach. Barber may not be worth a No 12 pick for the Dolphins, so I’ve also heard they have interest in Patrick Crayton. Now, all of these scenarios are plausible, because if Crayton is gone, the Cowboys very well may be going after Dez Bryant. http://www.examiner.com/x-850-Dallas-Co ... day-trades

Re: Are Cowboys and Dolphins discussing draft day trades?
^^^ Same.
Barber brings nothing that we don't already have at RB, and while Crayton is a decent WR and return man, he really isn't what we are looking for.
Maybe if this were Crayton, Barber, and the 27th pick for #12, I could see it being a discussion.

I don't want Barber or Crayton. It they are indeed talking trade, it better be for a swap of 1st round picks, Dallas 2nd and 3rd round pick since the Cowboys don't have a 5th.
According the the trade value sheet that would still be 90 plus points short, but I would take that.

It seems like every year since the Trifecta has been in town, we get linked to a 1st round trade with the Cowboys. Every year it never happens. I chalk this up to them grasping at straws for any kind of news story, as that deal would suck big time for us.

If they want our 12 pick.. They better be ready to send us Miles Austin.

Would kill two birds with one stone as you'd still be able to grab a very good player (and probable immediate starter) at 27 and have Austin provide a nice target for Henne. But I doubt anything happens.

I think our current information age makes the length between Super Bowl and Draft way too long. We could have it this week or next week. We're not going to learn anything new.

But I doubt anything happens. Yeah, I'm with you there. You get that receiver threat...Austin is a hell of a player. Then you can get a OLB/NT combo with the 27th and 43rd pick.

Miles Austin is not going anywhere....what a joke.
The Cowboys would be stupid to trade picks. In fact, this draft is deep at many positions. Better to hold your picks.

But the Cowboys could miss on all their picks and they would still be competing in 2010. From their standpoint, why not go out and try and get a couple of top-notch players?? It's not like the Cowboys will be able to resign Austin anyway...

You both are talking about ANOTHER possible MIAMI/DALLAS trade that I read about somewhere or other (I don't remember where, but I can find it). It didn't involve players at all. Based on the Draft Picks' value chart, MIAMI's 12th would cost DALLAS's 27th, and their 2nd, and their 4th. Now, it's a little too little, so the article mentioned adding DALLAS's 3rd instead of 4th, in return for which MIAMI would throw in its middle 6th. So it would seem that the "conventional wisdom" is MIAMI's 1st and middle 6th in return for DALLAS's 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Although the "numbers" might add up, do you think that DALLAS would actually trade its top 3 picks for a higher #1 and a mid-6th rounder? I'm not so sure, at least not in THIS draft.

Re: Are Cowboys and Dolphins discussing draft day trades?
Dallas 1st, 2nd and 4th would leave a 161 point difference, but that is a trade that I could live with also and since there is a working relationship there, it is something that they could come to a common ground on.
I will take picks though, keep the players. And Dallas is not trading Miles Austin.

Re: Are Cowboys and Dolphins discussing draft day trades?
Understand I dont believe they will trade Miles Austin. Just saying if they are calling asking for the 12th pick my immediate response is you are giving me Miles Austin and the 27th pick in return.
I doubt anyone is going to trade up for the pick. Someone may try to trade with Denver or Jacksonville to prevent Miami from grabbing a Dez Bryant or Dan Williams, but even that is a longshot at best.

Re: Are Cowboys and Dolphins discussing draft day trades?
No way would they give Austin AND the 27th pick. Austin is worth our 12. Nothing more. He was tendered for a 1st and a 3rd. Believe me, if it would have just been a 1st. Someone, maybe us, would have snatched him up.
