Sherman: Egnew's play is an Ireland/Philbin decision
What does that mean? Barry Jackson wrote: ### Sherman said Egnew made a couple of great catches on the scout team in practice last week but “he hasn't 100 percent shown that consistency in practice. He’s shown signs of greatness every once in a while, but we want to see it a little more often.”
Sherman said the question of whether Egnew needs to play “is a question Jeff Ireland and Joe Philbin need to answer.” He said it’s something they probably should be discussed. Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-b ... rylink=cpy

Fasano was on WQAM this morning and was asked about the progress of Egnew. Basically the Dolphins offense, playbook, and just about everything that involves prepping for the pros has been like a foreign language to the guy.

I am not sure if Egnew has a learning disability or if he is just undisciplined. But this is what he does for a job. If he has a hard time learning and understanding then he needs to put forth the extra effort to learn and grow. Or else he needs to be sent packing.

On hard knocks he seemed pretty indifferent about everything. Lacked confidence and just didn't look comfortable.

Egnew seemed like a nice guy when I met him in person, but he reminded me of Sloth from the movie "Goonies".

Perhaps the John Matuzcak steroid diet would help?

Can't say I am suprised. All Fasano said was that as a rookie, tight ends struggle with blocking and route running and that's where Egnew is and where he is showing improvement but needs to continue working. He also said Egnew has improved a lot and is working hard. You make it sound as if Fasano ripped the kid's entire game.

You make it sound as if Fasano ripped the kid's entire game. Not at all. Fasano was articulate how he said it. But how he described it completely came off like Egnew was not prepared for the pro's coming from Missouri. I know what I heard thanks.

You know what you heard but you didn't hear correctly... you're completely misinterpretting what Fasano said... But again this is no surprise seeing as how you constantly misinterpret or change around what folks on these forums say...

Re: Sherman: Egnew's play is an Ireland/Philbin decision
I agree with Rich, but I also agree with what Rock says Fasano said. It's not a secret that WR's and TE's out of Mizzou have a tough transition to the NFL (especially TE's it seems).

Re: Sherman: Egnew's play is an Ireland/Philbin decision
If Fasano truly meant that Mizzou didn't prepare Egnew for the NFL, then lets hope that our staff can have him ready to go by next year. Having an entire season to learn from the bench is more than enough time for a tightend to be up to speed. Engew has the physical talent to be a great seam buster, but only if he's able to develop as a pass blocker and learn the playbook.
