Ohio State linebacker Austin Spitler is visiting the Miami Dolphins today and Friday, according to a source close to the program with knowledge of the situation.

At his Pro Day workout, the 6-foot-2, 243-pounder clocked a 4.23 short shuttle and a 6.7 three-cone drill with a 32-inch vertical leap and bench pressed 225 pounds 32 times, according to a league source.

A league source told us that NFL scouts were extremely impressed with how Spitler performed during the linebacker drills.

Spitler joined the Ohio State recruiting class in late November, choosing the Buckeyes over Wisconsin. During his senior season, Spitler had 132 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven quarterback sacks and two interceptions. Spitler was moved up to the varsity as a freshman and was used on special teams. As a junior and sophomore, Austin played fullback and linebacker for Bellbrook. As a junior, he had 120 tackles and was named all-district. Is a very strong player, with a bench press of over 360 and a 500-pound squat. ... id=1200662

He's actually a LB, not a FB like that second quote indicates. Not sure whether he would be an ILB or an OLB in our 34, or whether he would be just a 3rd down LB.

Either way, he is gaining stock very quickly as he performed very well at the combine.
