Santonio Holmes: Dolphins can’t unload Ted Ginn Jr.
Quote: by Brian Biggane Those who feel the Dolphins should get rid of wide receiver/kick returner Ted Ginn Jr. won’t find an ally in Belle Glade native Santonio Holmes.
Holmes, the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver who was MVP of Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, was a year ahead of Ginn at Ohio State and feels like Ginn still needs time to come into his own.
“The Dolphins aren’t gonna let him go,” Holmes said at an appearance earlier this week at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando. “He’s definitely too valuable.
“At Ohio State, whether it was wide receiver, kick return, punt return, he made things happen on the field. Now, learning the whole thing where you’ve got to be a primary wide receiver, that takes time. I’m sure he’ll grow into it.”
...
Holmes said he worked with Hartline with the Buckeyes on improving his run after the catch.
“He was one of those guys that was satisfied with just making the catch. But I would say to him, ‘It’s not about the catch, it’s what you do after you make the catch.’ That turned him around mentally

I'm tired of other guys telling the Dolphins how good or bad their receivers are. Journalists say they suck, former college teammates and coaches say they are good.

Hear that? Santonio Holmes is the reason Brian Hartline has become a successful receiver.
Lmao.

I'm tired of waiting for Ginn to grow into his potential as a WR. As Jerry Glanville used to say "This is the NFL, that stands for not for long". Ginn doesn't like contact, isn't aggressive going to get the ball and drops a lot of passes. Those are not traits you grow into.

Re: Santonio Holmes: Dolphins can’t unload Ted Ginn Jr.
I think the biggest problem with Ginn is that he fills 2 spots now. You let him go and you have to fill a WR spot and a KR spot...
So you loose one player but have to find 2 more.....
I am no Ginn fan. That is for sure... But I do think they do not use him correctly. I swear at the tv every time I see him run a crossing pattern, or any other route that puts him across the middle in traffic.. Its just not going to happen....
Let him run deep...

Ginn has run every possible route, has returned punts, has returned kicks, and quite frankly he has shown minimal results for most of it. He's had a few sensational returns, and he's had a game here and there with multiple catches for good yardage. Its not like they are lining the guy up at tight end. They are using him correctly, he just isn't delivering. He can run straight down the field every time but its not going to amount to much. If he can't turn shorter passes into YAC or run great routes to get open (and take a hit) then he'll continue to be a guy who's career is marked by potential, not results.

Re: Santonio Holmes: Dolphins can’t unload Ted Ginn Jr.
I just havent seen his # called very much on deep routes, it seems they throw to him most across the middle or on short hooks..
He lines up outside and gets 1 on 1, then gets behind the defender and the ball doesnt go his way. Then they throw it to him 2 plays later across the middle in traffic... I just never understand it...
I go to all the home games, so I see it first hand. When the camera turns to the WR or RB catching the ball 3-5 yards out, we see Ginn 1 on 1 35 yards down field... With Chad P I understand, with Henne I dont...
I will never consider Ginn to be our YAC WR, he needs to be our deep threat. We already have 3 slot WR's for YAC, and IMO they are all better than Ginn at it... Hartline developed more in his rookie season then Ginn has since coming to Miami... That is the sad truth...

Re: Santonio Holmes: Dolphins can’t unload Ted Ginn Jr.
Not sure there is a lot of confidence in throwing the ball downfield to him. He caught two deep passes (one nullified by a clipping penalty) that I can recall.
The plays that remain in my mind are the INT that basically bounced off his head against NO, the big drops against IND, and the 4th down pass against NE where he clearly heard footsteps but was wide open.
If he's just going to run deep routes then he at least has to be able to fight for the ball, something I'm not sure he is capable of doing.

If you want Miami to go from mediocre to elite, you have to be willing to get rid of the mediocre players to make room for elite players. Don't tell me about potential, lets look at production or lack there of. If Ginn is a bust, then call it a bust and move on. Jason Allen is another player that comes to mind, so is Pat White. It is what it is. You can't polish a turd.

Ahh super, another bash Ginn thread. lol
I don't know about anyone else, but while he is still a Dolphin, I am hoping he becomes a pro-bowl receiver.

Re: Santonio Holmes: Dolphins can’t unload Ted Ginn Jr.
Hoping for Ginn to develop into a true #1 receiver (or even #2) is like running to the end of every rainbow in search of a pot o' gold......but I guess one can dream.
Oh...and for those who want to trash on Santonio Holmes....he was on the board when the Dolphins picked, but we went ahead and took Jason Allen. Holmes has become a #1 WR with a Super Bowl ring....and Jason Allen is a nickel or dime CB on what was arguably one of the worst secondaries in football.
Look at the first round picks made after Jason Allen....some "decent" players in there:
17 Minnesota Chad Greenway - LB 18 Dallas Bobby Carpenter - LB 19 San Diego Antonio Cromartie 20 Kansas City Tamba Hali - DE 21 New England Laurence Maroney - RB 22 San Francisco Manny Lawson - DE 23 Tampa Bay Davin Joseph - OG 24 Cincinnati Johnathan Joseph 25 Pittsburgh Santonio Holmes - WR 26 Buffalo John McCargo - DT 27 Carolina DeAngelo Williams - RB 28 Jacksonville Marcedes Lewis - TE 29 New York Nick Mangold 30 Indianapolis Joseph Addai - RB 31 Seattle Kelly Jennings 32 New York Mathias Kiwanuka - DE
