Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill setting rookie records
Quote: By Omar Kelly Sun Sentinel 7:16 a.m. EDT, October 8, 2012
...
The Dolphins' first-round pick passed for 1,269 yards this season, which is the second-most passing yards in NFL history by a rookie in his team’s first five games.
The only player he's behind is Carolina's Cam Newton, who passed for 1,610 last season.
Tannehill is the first rookie in NFL history to pass for 1,250-plus yards and record at least two wins in his team’s first five games.
...
He's thrown 19 passes of 20 or more yards. Only five QBs have thrown more this season.
Only 10 quarterbacks have thrown for more yards this season than Tannehill, who has 1,269 after five games.
Tannehill's yards per attempt (7.5) is the 13th highest in the NFL heading into week six.

Spoken by Earl ThomasQuote: We know he’s a great dual-threat quarterback, but once we bottle it up and frustrate him, we know he’s going to tank a little bit. Especially considering the pass on 4th & goal from the 1 late in the 4th. Missed a wide open TE by throwing a 15 Yd pass 3 Yds short.

He has thrown 6 Ints in the 1st 5 games. Plus cost Miami a win with the pick 6 against the Jets. Lets not get ahead of ourselves. He has promise, but he is still far from being there. Yds are nice, but 6 picks to 2 Tds is not a good ratio.

I agree, but it does depend on which side of the fence we are playing on. In the past those were called excuses for bad Qbings. So are we making excuses for Tanny or viewing it as it should be?

Re: Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill setting rookie records
I thought Moore should have started the season, but Tannehill has changed my mind.
I'm glad that we didn't get Manning, Smith, or Flynn. I wonder if anyone out there feels different.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can say my record has been consistent in this regard. I think you've also mentioned in the past that interceptions were not the fault of the QB (Davone Bess falling against Detroit, etc). I was just wondering if you still felt that way.

I'm fully on board with what you said. Batted balls at the line, most of the time fall to the ground, but for some reason Miami has had the worst luck with them going straight to a defender. For myself, I'd say Tanny is responsible for 3, but I'm not recalling all of the picks at the moment either.

But how many drives has he lead that finished with runs into the endzone and not TD passes. Sometimes the Statistics blind us to the real problems. For me, when judging Tannehill the 2 to 6 illustrate two problems. You have a rookie QB running an offense that he understands better than the rest of the team. Things are still gelling. I liken it to a engine firing on 6 cylinders and not all 8 at the moment. Secondly, we don't have a go up and get it type of WR for the redzone. Miami also needs to find a couple 99% plays for the enzone, meaning they work 99% of the time.
