ORLANDO, Fla.—It sounds like the Miami Dolphins are closing the door on re-signing outside linebacker Jason Taylor(notes), a former NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Unless the finances could be worked out, Taylor seems unlikely to return. Especially based on Dolphins coach Tony Sparano’s comments today at the NFL owners meetings. “He’s been a super guy for me," Sparano said during an AFC coaches’ breakfast. "I enjoyed him. I enjoyed having him on my team. I really did. I enjoyed coaching him." The past tense, in this case, is quite telling. Unless Sparano is bluffing, it looks like the Dolphins are making other plans that don’t include Taylor. Re: Jason Taylor unlikely to return to Dolphins Yeah, he played for Sparano once, last season. His contract is up so his return is unknown at this time. So yeah, past tense is how you refer to him....
He referred to Pennington in the past tense last year while he was still on the roster, and he has been resigned... So I think this is just what it is. Nothing... Taylor will not sign until after the draft. He isnt stupid enough to put himself out there as trade bait.. He will most likely sign right around the start of camp, whether or not its with the Fins is unclear, but I dont expect to see him signed anywhere til that time.... Re: Jason Taylor unlikely to return to Dolphins For one, I don't think Miami will look to re-sign Jason until after the draft. I would like to see him bought back because I think he would be a solid, veteran presence in the locker room and he is still productive as a player.
Now, any time you want more money are you are a 35 year old player, there are going to be some haggling over the contract and what Miami will want to pay, but I believe Jason would be worth bringing back and I think the Phins will bring him back. _________________

Re: Jason Taylor unlikely to return to Dolphins I hope they bring him back too. It is a position they are very thin at right now. I think JT has one more year of decent production left in him. But I will understand if they decide to move on. Unfortunately, this is a brutal business where every player/team relationship comes to an end.

Re: Jason Taylor unlikely to return to Dolphins Except for his willingness to reassess himself to become a Dolphin, JT didn't do much last season to prove he's worth more.
If he wants to be here, we'll pay him what he's worth & maybe give him incentives. But the truth is even the classiest players sometimes go out like this. You know what I love? When journalist can't make sense of our FO, broad yet simple approach to the business. Seems like every week someone has a new theory of how the Tuna will handle things _________________
