It's obvious we're in dire need of a big time receiver, as we all know how detrimental the players currently on our roster could seriously stunt Tannehill's growth. However, with the release of Vontae Davis, would that turn the table and make drafting a CB our 1st priority?

They're both a pretty big need, but considering the fact that Vontae Davis was the 3rd best cornerback in camp I think it's fair to say wideout is a slightly bigger need right now. Davone Bess is our only competent receiver until Hartline returns and even those two can't come close to carrying the load this year. Bottom line is we need to make some sort of move to add a couple more 40-50 catch guys soon or we'll be doomed to struggle early on this year.

I say we trade to get another 2nd rounder and then use those top 6 picks to get:
2 WR's and an entirely new secondary. Or maybe 1 WR and 1 pass rusher and a new secondary.

CB....coverage is so hard to find in the NFL. Every year a lot of great WRs come from nowhere, just think of Victor Cruz last year. However, that is very rare with CBs. It is so much more difficult to find those guys that can play as opposed to pass catchers. It is why I thought it was a really bad deal to ship off Vontae.

How can CB be a priority. They said it was a strength that allowed them to trade Davis.

the only team i know that is flush with top corners is the Jets and they suck.
if the pass rush is strong the secondary will be fine.

I'd rather have great receivers over great corners.
A corner is only as good as the pass rush.
(see, Giants, Niners)

I agree. Pressure the QB and the secondary has an easy job.

the Giants have the perfect formula for success in the new passing NFL.
I envy the way they draft. They always go after talented pass rushers and receivers,
if you can pass all over your opponent and pressure their QB, you're gonna win consistently.

That's how I want Miami to be. Ireland blew it when he picked Davis over Nicks a few years back. That was a no-brainer.

Said it then. I wanted Nicks. I understood Davis, but I wanted Nicks.

I voted WR, but unless we can trade for one we'll have to wait until next offseason to improve it significantly as I think there just band-aids at best on the waiver wire. The third preseason game our defense played well, and we did have VD in the lineup at the time, but what was successful was that we were able to put pressure on the quarterback. If we can generate a consistent pass rush this year then it would cover over a lot of deficiencies in our secondary. I am hopeful.

I'm not sure if I agree with you, Hypo, but I am definitely not a fly on Ireland's wall to get the inside scoop. The Dolphins are tough against the run and we can thank Dansby for some of that. Everyone knew that we overpaid for him (including Ireland), but he was the free agent gem at the time and we had a big need for him. Our defense didn't play well this preseason when he wasn't in the lineup. I think the guy is very valuable and is a keeper.

2013 Draft
1st - Defensive Back
2nd - Widereceiver
2nd - Passrusher (D-Line or Linebacker)
3rd - Defensive Back
3rd - Widereceiver
4th - 7th - Best Player Available

We're not as far off as people think. We just need to find a way to pick up a couple of 40-50 catch guys and we'll be just fine. If Kansas City, Arizona, or Denver wants Moore we could probably let him go for a 4th and use that pick to go after a proven vet receiver who can contribute like James Jones. Or we could package it with a 2nd or 3rd round pick to attempt to go after a big time target like Dwayne Bowe.

-We need at least 2 CB's.
-Our Safeties still can't be counted on.
-Right side of the O-line still in flux and the left side faces re-signing Long while Incognito is getting a little long in the tooth. Every single player on that line is from previous regimes sans Martin.
-Our WR core still needs a complete makeover and true impact player
-Fasano will be gone next year and there are still huge question marks with the guys we have aside from him.
-We have only 1 consistent pass rusher in Cam Wake, but successful 4-3 teams like Eagles and Giants have at least 2-3
- Dansby has failed to live up to his price tag and clearly he and Philbin do not see eye to eye.

Barring a miraculous Harbaugh-style turnaround, we are as far as people think. Can't put lipstick on a pig. If people want to see Philbin succeed they need to back off this idea that we're going to ascend to the ranks of the highly competitive by Year 2. There's going to be a massive influx of new players next year via the draft and free agency. That means yet another year of team building and chemistry construction.

CB... we have three... that is the biggest need right now... even though the WR crew is lacking we have Bess and Hartline... Both are dependable... Matthews had a good preseason, hopefully he can take that momentum and build on it... right now we have 5 RB's on the roster I think they are going to use Thigpen as a slot receiver so he may as well be considered a WR... I think we are better off at WR than most people think, still average though...

Defensively I am willing to bet we see alot of 3 safety looks
