The Dolphins have been coy about their plans on defense this offseason. There has been speculation that Miami might consider moving Smith to safety next season, in part because there is a need and also because Smith has the size to play the position. I don't think that's the case, but this Marshall signing at least gives the Dolphins the flexibility. He can also play safety if needed.http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/ ... d-marshall
The cornerback trio of Davis, Smith and now Marshall should make Miami's defense formidable against three-receiver sets.
This is why I'm still perplexed by the fact that they haven't cut or restructured Bell. I advocated moving Smith and getting a guy that could play that other corner and then have Wilson or a rookie play the nickel. I'm not convinced that Marshall can play the other corner.
But now we have Smith, Marshall, Clemons, Jones and Culver who can all play safety and are probably better fit for safety. We also have an expensive Bell and no real answer for that number 2 corner.
