 OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
Wow.....The Jets just traded a 3rd round pick in 20 11 (conditional 2nd), for Antonio Cromartie, the outstanding CB from SD. Holy crap, they've got a good CB duo. This is per Adam Schefter on twitter.

Funny after they embarrassed him in the Playoffs. I really wouldn't worry about Cromartie. He hasn't been any good since 2007. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na4cE3m2Gwo

Yeah, he flaked on that play, but in all reality, that is not his play to make....where is the middle of the defense?

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
Jets most likely win the AFC East next year.....their defense just got even better...and it was the #1 defense last year. They have the luxury of focusing picks on offense in the draft. That team (which I hate) is on the rise. Either we start matching that kind of management/money outlay, or we are relegated to mediocre for a long time to come.

Bengals and Colts laid down for the Jets....without that, the Jets most likely wind up being under .500 Miami was able to steam roll that defense twice. They're not as good as advertised.

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
I don't think the Bengals laid down at all....because they lost to the same Jets team in the playoffs the next week.....
#1 defense over a 16 game season is hard to dismiss because of one team laying down (the Dolts).

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
lol http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/?go=for ... age=1&pc=4This trade did nothing to help the Jets. Dude is garbage. The only thing Chargers fans seem to not like about this trade is the year of the pick being 2011 as opposed to '10. Braylon Edwards of their defense.

#1 defense over a 16 game season is hard to dismiss because of one team laying down (the Dolts). Momentum and emotions play just as much of a role in football as skill. The glimmer of hope for the Jets allowed for them to beat the Bengals and Chargers in the playoffs.

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
I sure hope our team can get the kind of emotions and momentum that can move them from middle of the pack to the AFC Championship game.....
Call me old-fashioned, but I think a talent upgrade might actually be what is needed though.

I sense sarcasm. Look at Miami last year...one WildCat touchdown led to 5 against the Patriots, and suddenly Miami was a contender.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Cromartie stink it up in the playoff game vs. the Jets? I think the guy is overrated personally

Who would have thought back in 07 that the Chargers would give up on Cromartie before Miami gave up on Allen?

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
i think this trade changes how we approach personnel decisions regarding our WR corps. it now becomes even more pressing to have a true #1 receiver, as the jests w/ this move have the capacity to truly shut down a passing game that isn't on its A-game

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
Cromartie has had ups & downs as well as personal baggage (I guess in the NFL who does not} but put him on the other corner with Reevis , on a defense where he will only be asked to cover & not tackle , you have to say this is one helluva pair of corners. In a league where elite QB's kill you aquiring this guy for a #3 & not by free agency was a pretty decent move. Not breaking the bank on a defensive FA. The Cromardie thread on this board was somewhat positive about him , still our opinion of a guy does diminish when signed by another team , especially a divisional opponent.
I just keep telling myself we are still talking about the Jets ... they always find new ways to lose & screw things up.

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
If anything we need to improve the run game, thats how we beat them last season. Their pass rush is gonna be even better now that they have two good corners to cover, so the best way to beat that pass rush is runs and screens. Dink and dunk, then the long ball to Ginn (Lets just hope he can hold on to it).

I just keep telling myself we are still talking about the Jets ... they always find new ways to lose & screw things up. I disagree. Cromartie can not cover. Lining him up across from Revis is going to result in a lot of big days for #2 receivers playing the Jets. Other teams will throw at him all day and tear him apart. I love the trade as a Dolphins fan. Would be pissed if I were a Jets fan.

Depends on the circumstances. As a general rule, if you are overshadowed in your division, then you have a minuscule (or no) shot at being anything.

Quote: I love the trade as a Dolphins fan. Would be pissed if I were a Jets fan. Well you are in the minority here. ESPN was using words like "fleeced" today when describing this deal with the fleecing done by the Jets. Look , they released a under peforming Shephard , saved 10 mil , while giving up a #3. I hope your opinion turns out to be correct but putting the Jet hatred aside that includes a hard time to admit any positives they do I just dont see how they are worse off with Cromartie than without him.

Re: OT: Jets trade for Cromartie
what a huge pickup for the Jets. This is going to be a scary defense next year. Cromartie was so successful in 07 because of the Chargers ability to pressure the QB, the Chargers front 7 have not been able replicate that in 08 or 09. With Ryan finding ways to pressure the QB, Revis and Cromartie are in for big years.
