09Fins defense suffered "drop-off" in post NT Jason Ferguson
I hope we are not expecting more than back up status from Soliai in 2010. Omar Kelly wrote: After crunching the numbers, I was troubled by the drop-off the Dolphins defense suffered in the post Jason Ferguson era of the season. With a healthy Ferguson the Dolphins held opponents to 93.7 rushing yards. Without a healthy Ferguson the defense allowed 135.6 rushing yards. That’s a 41.9 yards per game difference. That’s why I have Ferguson, who will be an unrestricted free agent, listed at No. 11, and Paul Soliai, who was routinely single blocked as his replacement, didn’t even make the list. Sun Sentinel

NT is so so important in a 3-4 defense and those numbers are hard to argue with. That's why I believe if Rolando McClain and Dez Bryant are gone by number 12 and Miami can't trade down, Dan Williams, the NT from Tennessee will be a serious consideration.
I think if Terrance Cody even makes it into the 2nd round, there are teams ahead of Miami that either run the 3-4 scheme or are going to it, like Buffalo that will snap him up. KC and Denver come to mind as teams that will be looking for NT also.

I like how he had to "crunch the numbers" to figure that one out

But I thought Phins Rock said we were okay at NT if we could get someone to spell Soliai?

I've been saying this for several years and the ageless Jason Ferguson has proved me wrong previous to this year: NT should be the #1 defensive concern for the Dolphins. A 3-4 team without a NT is a team without a defense.

Where's the rebuttal Phins Rock? How do you justify a 40+ yard per game difference?

Yeah, I didn't think it was that much.
I guess I can try the, "Crowder missed a few games in there too", argument, but I'll shut up now. Lol.
I do think that Ferg will be back though.

Jason has proven that he can come back from injuries, but he will be 35 I believe. How much longer can you continue to count on Jason to be the rock, and this time he is coming off a leg inury, his base to anchor in the middle.
Paul Soliai shows flashes of being the answer, but his consistency needs to pick up greatly and he gets nicked from time to time also.
