Miami Dolphins sign CFL linebacker Mark Restelli
by: Omar Kelly

The Miami Dolphins are trying to tap the CFL’s talent base yet again to find a few hidden gems.

According to Sportnet.ca, the Miami Dolphins have signed former Edmonton Eskimos linebacker Mark Restelli to a future’s contract. That means he’ll be training with the team in the offseason when/if a collective bargaining agreement is struck between the NFL’s owners and the player’s association.

Restelli played in six games with the Eskimos last season and recorded 16 tackles. His production was low because he suffered a knee injury in the second game of the season and was placed on the CFL’s nine-game injured list.

Restelli, 24, returned toward the end of the season.

Restelli, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, played his college ball at Cal Poly, where he was a four-year starter contributed 267 tackles, three sacks, and three interceptions during his playing career. He caught on with the CFL during a California tryout in 2009.

The Dolphins are continuing in the Parcells tradition of collecting linebackers. I don't think this one is a keeper.

Dolphins Upstage Patriots Jets Battle with Mark Restelli Signing

The Miami Dolphins stole the thunder from this weekends AFC playoff battle between Rex Ryan’s Jets and Bill Belichick’s Patriots with the signing of undersized, oft-injured Edmonton Eskimo linebacker Mark Restelli.

The Restelli signing sent a shockwave through the league, leaving the media room in Foxboro almost completely empty as reporters scurried to file stories on Miami’s latest CFL import, and the pride of the Cal Poly Mustangs.

Though Restelli is expected to compete only for a spot on special teams, GMs and coaches around the league agreed that, if he ever sees the field in an NFL game, he could conceivably make a notable play if the right series of events took place.

“He could perhaps recover a fumble at some point,” explained a rival GM who requested anonymity. “Or make a decent kick return by mistake, on a squib kick maybe?”

The sky’s the limit for Restelli, which is why not a single reporter was in the room when Tom Brady stepped to the podium to discuss New England’s impending war with the Jets. “Where is everyone?” Brady asked, before fixing his long, flowing hair and kissing a random woman.

Everyone was gone, furiously covering the latest move in the ongoing AFC East chess match. A 215lb Canadian Eskimo Dolphin named Mark Restelli just hit the board. And that can only mean one thing.

Checkmate.

Special teams ... but he did start 4 years at college.

Eskimos GM Danny Maciocia reportedly said Restelli "plays as if his hair is on fire," and the 6'2", 215-pound prospect will likely be given a shot to upgrade the Dolphins' special teams.

haha I live in Edmonton and never heard of the guy, granted I don't follow the Eskimo's much but still its pretty hard not hear about talent in a eight team league...

As far as Macioca's comments (or what they call him here in Edmonton 'no can
coacha') goes he wouldnt know talent if it hit him over the head and this is why he was fired as GM back in August so I have no idea when he would have made these comments?
