Popular Dolphins broadcaster Jim Mandich, who is battling bile-duct cancer, returned to the hospital this week as friends and former teammates grew increasingly concerned about his condition.

Mandich, 62, was scheduled to emcee a roast for former teammate Manny Fernandez, who is moving to Georgia, on Wednesday night but was replaced by Miami sportscaster Kim Bokamper, another former Dolphin.

Bokamper began what was to be a festive evening at Miami's Jungle Island by asking everyone to join him in prayer for Mandich.

"We did a prayer and we've been praying ever since," Fernandez said Friday.

Fernandez said he did not know details of Mandich's condition but "it seems pretty serious."

Sorry to read the news. Hopefully things go well with Jim's treatment.

My prayers are with him and his family.
One of my hero's.
May God bless him, his family, fans and friends.

Totally agree, Deb. When I think of the voice of the Dolphins, I think of Mandich.
