Dawn Aponte named Sr. VP of Football Operations
From MiamiDolphins.com

Quote:
The Miami Dolphins announced that Dawn Aponte has joined the team as Sr. Vice President of Football Operations. Aponte fills the role of Matt Thomas, who left the Dolphins to join the Cleveland Browns as Vice President-Football Administration. She will report directly to Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland and will oversee the team's salary cap, player contracts and budgets. Aponte will also serve as the team's liaison on league affairs.

Quote:
A veteran football executive, Aponte joins the Dolphins after spending last season as Vice President, Football Administration with the Cleveland Browns. In her role with the Browns, Aponte's primary responsibilities included player contract negotiations, salary cap management and player cost budgeting, league compliance, and assisting in other legal matters.

I know she will be reporting directly to the tuna, but I don't know about this move. She has a bad reputation in Cleveland for being stubborn and was pinned as the person responsible for nearly running Cribbs out of town. Let's hope Parcells and Ireland keep her under control, we dont want to be known as the team that refuses to pay their players, we already have the Marlins in town for that..

Don't blame the lady trying to do what the higher ups ask/demand of her. She is only given a certain amount of authority in her abilities to do her job. You can blame the higher ups in Cleveland for all of their woes.

So far I have not been impressed with the front office moves of the Browns. They've been screwing up for years.

It seems to me that in football, more than any other major sport, everything starts from the top and moves downward. Look at the Raiders. They have some talent on their team, but the ownership is too stupid to keep out of the game. Hence, they perennially suck.

OTOH, Pittsburgh, with its steady ownership which does not meddle around has had a class organization that is competitive year after year for decades (with the exception of some late 80s early 90s garbage just before Cowher.

Here's a little more info on the "trade".

Quote:
Trade personnel with Cleveland
Mon, 01 Feb 2010 20:17:03 -0800

Mary Kay Cabot, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports the Cleveland Browns have traded salary-cap specialist Dawn Aponte to the Miami Dolphins for salary-cap specialist Matt Thomas. Aponte has been named the team's senior vice president of football operations. The trade occurred because Browns executive vice president of business administration Bryan Wiedmeier came from Miami and wanted to bring Thomas with him. Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Bill Parcells agreed to the trade as long as he could get Aponte, who worked for the New York Jets when Parcells was head coach and then director of football operations.

Does anyone want to bet that the paint on her wall melted after Parcells was done with her? The release and then reinstatement of Joey Porter was an embarrassing mess to the organization.

Let's hope this isn't the first of many mistakes yet to come. After she was hired I read around a little bit, and found a lot of negative comments about her.
