Post Misi Picking Up Steam Opposite Wake; Other Notes
Quote:
While Wake has been the one generating quite a bit of buzz with his league-leading sack total of 14, Misi has become very adept at setting the edge against the run. The rookie second-round draft pick does have 3.5 sacks to his credit, which is second on the team behind Wake, and he also has a touchdown off a fumble recovery.

...

“Koa’s my guy. That’s why they try to run at Cam because they can’t run at Koa,” Crowder said. “Koa sets the edge. Koa’s a strong and scrappy rookie and they don’t try to run at him too much so they try to run at Cam thinking he’s going to fly up the field. But Cam’s beating the hell out of the edge, too, so that’s why as of late nobody’s really been able to get the edge on us because those guys are doing such a good job.”

In last Sunday’s 10-6 win over the New York Jets at New Meadowlands Stadium, Misi had three tackles (two solo) but did not register a sack or a quarterback hit. Even so, some of his pass rushes forced Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez to either get rid of the ball or run right into Wake or another defender.

There was one particular play very early in the game that really summed up Misi’s perseverance on the field and ability to make a play regardless of the obstacle. It came on the first play of New York’s second drive with Jets tight end Ben Hartstock trying to block him and running back Shonn Greene rushing around the left end.

Misi, with Hartstock grabbing a hold of his facemask and twisting it towards him, reached out with his right arm and wrapped up Greene after a 2-yard gain. The 15-yard penalty on Hartstock negated the play, but not the image.

“Yeah, he made a nice play there and I think Koa was having fun. He had a good look about him in pre-game and had a really good look about him out there during the game,” Sparano said. “I thought he flew around pretty good and played hard. He had good pass rushes out there against a really good player (Jets left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson). That guy is a good tackle.”

He didn't set the edge at all in preseason or the early season. He has grown in to this.

Earlier in the year he just kept trying to bull rush everyone with his strength. Good to see he finally learned you can't rely on that.
