Third-down conversions is the latest problem for the Dolphin defense.

It’s one thing to allow guys like Vince Young and Aaron Rodgers to escape containment and run for first downs. Jay Cutler, who has never been accused of being elusive or fast, is another matter.

Cutler used his legs on three occasions to get out of the pocket and run for first downs, and when he wasn’t doing that he was giving his receivers a chance to get open. As a result, the Bears converted 10-of-18 third-down chances into first downs, which proved to be a big reason they kept the ball for 37:51 compared to Miami’s 22:09.

Miami pressured Cutler repeatedly, sacking him three times and being credited with another four hurries. But containment is at least as important for a defense, and in that area the Dolphins failed.

Just when we fix one thing, another seems to break.

We have stud corners but no safety help....get rid of Wilson and fix it with Clemons, now the corners suck. We can't cover TE's so we get Dansby, now we can't cover running backs.
We have a great running game, but can't throw it deep, so we put in Henne but now we can't run it....

Going game by game, Buffalo and Minnesota we couldn't score....so we score a lot against New York, but can't stop them from scoring. Stop New England from scoring and can move the ball on offense but the special teams blows up....so we fix special teams, then the offense becomes anemic in the redzone so we win with defense...now the defense sucks and gets shredded by Chicago AND the offense can't move the ball.

Wish we could put it all together.

Here's what we know:
Henne can have a big game and throw for 300 yards. Marshall can make people miss, Hartline can come up big, Fasano can come up big, and Bess can come up big. Ronnie and Ricky still run great when given an opportunity and can catch. The line can block.
Clemons can make plays, Vontae can make plays, Smith can get into position to make plays, Dansby can make plays, Starks, Langford and Daniels can blow up running plays, Wake can rush the passer.
Carpenter can kick field goals, Carroll can return them, and Fields can punt well.....

Now if they could all do it on a consistent basis, we'd have a real good team.

that 3rd and 15 early in the 2nd from the Dolphins 25 ESPECIALLY left a sour taste in my mouth. We rushed 3 and dropped 8, Wake lunges at Cutler and forces him out of the pocket, but then our secondary still let Cutler run 15+ yards UNTOUCHED to the sideline for a 1st down .... aaaahhhhh

:hithead:
