Post Tyler Thigpen unleashed just in time
Quote:
by: Omar Kelly November 14th, 2010 | 3:52 PM How many quarterbacks does it take to save the Miami Dolphins’ season?
According to Sunday’s 29-17 win over the Tennessee Titans the answer’s four… if you count Brandon Marshall throwing out of the Wildcat.
The Dolphins lost Chad Pennington to a possible season-ending – and maybe career-ending – shoulder injury after two throws in the first quarter.
The Dolphins lost Chad Henne in the third-quarter to a knee injury.
With quarterbacks dropping like flies the Dolphins finally unleashed Tyler Thigpen in the fourth-quarter and he reproduced some of the magic he had in last year’s season-ending loss to the Steelers.
Thigpen immediately drove the offense to score a touchdown, doing his best Stephen Morris impersonation, possibly stealing South Florida’s heart much like the Hurricanes’ freshman quarterback.
Thigpen is unorthodox. The coaches compare him to a wild stallion who needs to be broken because he relies too much on broken plays.
But the one thing Thigpen can do is produce big plays. You saw that on his 31-yard pass to Anthony Fasano, which put the Dolphins in scoring position midway through the fourth quarter with a 23-14 lead.
You saw more of it on that 9-yard touchdown reception to Fasano, who put together a career game in what’s turning into a career season (look at the numbers if you disagree).
Now it’s possible the Dolphins will have to lean on Thigpen – not Pennington, or Henne – to continue saving the season.
Hasn’t he shown enough to prove he’s possibly got that “IT” factor that could spark this offense.

1 quarter of football is enough to show an IT factor?

Omar isn't sure, either.

"Prove" followed by "possibly" gives his position away.

Yes, but he starts his sentence with "Hasn't he shown enough" which makes the entire statement ridiculous.

On twitter Omar says that the dolphins D are very impressed with Thigpen. He bases some of his liking of him with their view of him.

He showed plenty in 2008. The guy has game.

He's a poor man's Aaron Rodgers.

This is absolutely hilarious. A guy comes in a scores a touchdown. Whoopdy doo. Weren't the one that wanted to end the Thigpen talk after just one throw today?
Thigpen is a career backup and nothing more...he's a Frank Reich, an A.J. Feeley....NOT a poor man's Aaron Rodgers.

I don't sit down over the course of a game. I lose my voice and get high on Tylenol at night because I get severe migraine headaches.

Do NOT take anything I say during the course of a game seriously. Lol.

I am basing my evaluation off of last year's Pittsburgh game, today, but mostly 2008.

So you have a migraine right now and are high on Tylenol...so nothing you say right makes any sense. :yay: Got it.

Agreed. The whole thing is a linguistic mess. But he seems to pride himself for being able to spot the IT factor, and seems reluctant to admit when he's wrong. He's also never been a Henne fan and is eager to proclaim himself right on that front.

Either way, his language clearly shows his indecisiveness.

I like Thigpen. He just needs to mature on the field and I believe he can start for someone ... maybe us? Who knows. He can make the big play, but at the same time he can make a bad mental mistake. It should be interesting to see what he can do with a few days to prepare as the starter.

I was hoping that we could use him as the Broncos use Tebow.

Seriously, you need to stop with the ridiculous posts. Seriously...

Now you want to call this guy a poor man's Aaron Rodgers?

We're talking about a guy with a QB rating of 76 and completion percentage of 54.8%.

The Pittsburgh game in which he threw two picks?

You're not on a Tylenol, you're on a roll... as in the rolls that make people hallucinate.

So an uneven performance in 1 quarter versus Pitt last year, a stinker of a quarter against the Pats this year, and a nice drive against the Titans yesterday.

Yeah this guy has FRANCHISE QB written all over him.

He also nearly lead a great comeback.

Thigpen was extremely raw back in 2008. He was not recruited as a QB coming out of HS, and went to Coastal Carolina....Coastal Carolina. They had just gotten a football program. He was also just in his second year as a pro playing for a crap team.

He played very well despite that, and shows a ton of promise. He's got ability. He's got the arm, touch, athleticism, heart and at times the accuracy. He's a poor man's Aaron Rodgers. How poor? We'll see.

I have a lot of faith in Tyler.

He could easily be starting for a number of teams in the NFL right now.

Why do you think the 'Fins didn't want to trade him??? They know his potential, and after getting ZERO reps with the first O team, he can come in and run the Offense like he had been there.

Thigpen is not a diamond in the rough, he is a diamond yet to be discovered.

Next year he becomes a free agent, and you think there won't be a lot of teams looking at him???

Someone called him an interception machine, but over his short career, he has had more TDs than interceptions than Henne..

I like Thigpen's enthusiasm, and his spark he gives to any offense.

Look, we have no choice but to accept it and try to get excited about Thigpen leading this team tight now because it looks like it is his team to lead! I think this is a major setback for our future! I was not in favor of benching Henne and killing his confidence, and now this just sucks. Thigpen is not our future and now we will still have question marks as to wether Henne is!
