The Dolphins restocked their depth at inside linebacker on Monday, reaching an agreement on a deal with former Tennessee Titans linebacker David Long and re-signing linebacker Duke Riley, league sources told the Miami Herald.

According to reports, Long’s contract is a two-year deal worth $11 million and Riley’s contract is two years.

Long, who turns 27 in October, recorded a career-high 86 tackles this past season before a hamstring injury in December sidelined him for the final five games. A sixth-round pick of the Titans in the 2019 Draft, Long has started 26 games in his career, with 21 coming in the last two seasons. In 50 games, he has recorded 230 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 14 pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

According to NFL’s Next Gen Stats, Long tackled opposing ball carriers for a loss or no gain on 6.6 percent of his run defense snaps last season, the second-highest run stuff rate for qualifying players.

Long, 26, was rated as the NFL's 14th-best linebacker in 2022 by Pro Football Focus, directly behind Buffalo's Matt Milano. PFF also rated him the fifth-best run defender at the position.

Although Long was drafted in the sixth round and became a pleasant surprise for the Titans, his career comes full circle in Miami. Long was the 188th pick in 2019 -- a pick originally owned by the Dolphins but sent to Tennessee as part of the Ryan Tannehill trade.

One of the things I told him is ‘Dude, you are an inspiration for a guy [who also isn’t very tall]. People have probably told you you’re a little undersized.”

Long is listed at 5-11.

“He has found so many different tools in his game to be successful to make him a really good player,” McDaniel said, mentioning “how he is always finding the ball, how he beats out players on his unit to the ball in pursuit, his coverage abilities, his ability to eliminate the space between him and the ball carrier, and his ability to really be a quality tackler. “Great fit for us. Really excited to have him. He was one of those guys that always stood out [in tape evaluation] for me. I’ve been watching him for a while.”
