Yes, he was solid and looked even better in year 2, but Phinished is right that he wasn't a good inning.

In an end-of-season news conference, general manager Chris Grier said Jones “did everything he could to try and play so no qualms with that at all.” Grier, however, did not answer a question regarding whether Jones intended to continue playing and whether he would remain in Miami for the 2023 season.

For his cost he was never going to be " A good signing ", but its NFL FA when decent players get far above what they are worth. See Christian Kirk.

However, for two yrs he was solid corner that did a really good job.

He was the highest paid cornerback in the NFL when he was signed (which certainly did not make the X man very happy) ….ha ha ha ha ha.

And? That is life in the NFL, especially when one is a FA. One can get better deals.

Why do you think the NFL Wr market exploded this past yr? Kirk landed an asinine contract and the stud WR started going this avg. Wr is making that & I'm not, but yet I produce far more than he does. Pay me.

Plus if Jones never plays again, it throws pie in the face of all the couch potatoes that whined about him and throwing shade on him for not playing last yr.

….or it tells us the team lies to its fans, or is ignorant of the physical status of its key players.

He was running during warm ups in Week 4 prior to the Bengals game. So... he can still run.

What effect would a potential injury settlement have on the salary cap for the rest of his contract years?

Yes and no. I mean, just because he can jog up and down a sideline in pregame warmups doesn't mean he can do the kind of quick-twitch start and stop running that a DB has to do. There's running and then there's NFL running. I don't want to jump to conclusions; I've thought all along there was more to this story than was getting out. I wonder if a lawsuit is in the future for the Dolphins medical staff's treatment of him.

He said he cannot run or jump. If he said he is not the top athlete he used to be...well that happens to just about everyone with age and injury. He is making it sound like he lost basic abilities.

Another story as a reason I don’t pay much attention to NFL football anymore, these guys are pure Hollywood sometimes.

Mike McDaniel was asked about Byron Jones at the Combine this week.

Daniel Oyefusi (Miami Herald) wrote:
“I know it’s a tough situation from a competitor that loves to play the game of football,” McDaniel said. “The one thing I will say is that throughout the process, Byron’s been able to be the conductor of the train. I think the Dolphins’ organization, the entire training staff and the medical department has supported him on every turn and I think we’ll continue to do that as he presses forward.”

A league source told the Miami Herald that Jones is not retiring and that there is no pending lawsuit over the handling of his injury.

Asked whether Jones at any point expressed concerns about his medical treatment, McDaniel said, “To me specifically, no. I try to keep my ear to the street, so to speak. The bottom line is he feels the way he feels and I think as a leader of professional athletes, I empathize with how everyone truly feels. I think all I can do is support. I know [general manager] Chris [Grier] feels the same way, we can just support the player in the process and do best with that.”

Phins have a good track record of drafting DBs........it was illogical to acquire Jones at that price.

I am very sure that Flores had to have him in his blitz heavy scheme. I think the problem is that GMs and coaches dive into free agency thinking that they can change someone from one scheme to another with the same results. Jones played more zone with the Cowboys than manning up in our scheme.

On a human level, I feel bad when palyers get hurt. If you've ever dealt with serious sports injury, you know as well as I do, it sucks. My left thumb almost got tore off in a Jiu-Jitsu match one time when I first started rolling because I used the wrong grip trying to sweep a guy, should've been using a "monkey grip" and instead, I left my thumb in a normal grip, when I swept him, his entire body weight collapsed by thumb backwards and bent it back all the way to my wrist. It took me well over a year to be able to use that thumb correctly again, without any pain or discomfort. It sucked so bad, even after surgery. So I feel bad for Jones in that regard.

Now, the other side of that is, I signed up to do that of my own free will. Nobody forced me to, and I certainly undrstood the consequences of that sport and what "could" happen. And thus, so did Jones. These guys know football is a violent sport, and the next play, you coudl be done for the rest of your life. The reward of them taking that risk is being among some of the highest paid atheltes on planet earth. Millionaires in their early 20's.

Byron's net worth is roughly $54 million according to the Google. More than all of us on this message board, I assume... combined. Probably all the Dolphins message boards combined. He and his family "should be" set for life. A generational wealth environment that he has earned for his family.

Does it suck that he got hurt and it appears is struggling with it, sure. I certainly get it. But you signed up for it, you chose to play the game. Go cry over your tears and wipe them away with your $54 million dollars, and hush. And by the way, he has a cap hit of ~$18 million dollars due up this year...

Did you chant 1-2-3-4 I declare a thumb war before you started?
