Well, dang. This is a BIG surprise as we were all excited to have him on board last year. This is probably a reflection on run game performance, not the fact that Grier whiffed in the draft on OLmen and that McDaniel chose to be pass happy.

Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) wrote:
The Dolphins have parted ways with offensive line coach Matt Applebaum, a league source confirmed Thursday.

According to Outkick.com, coach Mike McDaniel has begun a search for Applebaum’s replacement and already has interviewed Dan Rouchar, who was the Saints’ offensive line coach from 2017 through 2020 and was the team’s run game coordinator and tight ends coach the past two years.

Other candidates are expected to be interviewed.

The Dolphins hired Applebaum from the same position at Boston College and retained the 2021 offensive line coach, Lem Jeanpierre, as his assistant coach. Players say that offensive coordinator Frank Smith also was very involved in the team’s offensive line coaching this past season. Smith previously was an assistant offensive line coach with the Saints.

When healthy, the offensive line did a decent job. When Armstead went down, things unraveled. I guess they are going to look for someone who can coach up developing players like Eich?

Grier is fighting for his job right now. He knows if he blows it with this line in 2023, he's gone. And he doesn't have a first round pick either. Not looking good for him.

How is Grier fighting for his job? He landed has landed solid starters in 2019, 2020, 2021. 2022 is to close to judge, but a 3rd being the highest, not anything that is going to harm him. Traded for a stud Wr, a Pro Bowl pass rusher that many love.

If Grier is fired and if GM jobs are available he will be hired. He will not be unemployed long.

And he failed to address the one problem that has been plaguing this team for years.... the offensive line.

The game is won and lost in the trenches.

3/5 of that problem has been addressed.

Will also be interesting to see if Eric Fisher makes his way back and starts at RT.

3/5? Maybe part time. Armstead is a very high quality and expensive bandaid. He brought his injury history with him and it yielded disastrous results for our starting QB’s….one of which has yet to complete a season without missing time with injuries. Connor Williams and Robert Hunt, yeah…starters we can rely on. The rest….not good enough. Ajax is steering towards bust territory, Eich is also not getting it done…despite him being a solid prospect….so hard to blame Grier on his selection. I noticed a significant improvement in line play when they had him on the bench this year. The line was middling at best with everyone healthy, but a shambles otherwise. PFF has the Eagles at #1 and KC at #4….I don’t pay for premium PFF data….but I bet Miami was in the bottom third for sure, if not bottom 5.

Yep, if he gets fired, his agent will be fielding multiple calls for employment ... and will probably get a raise in the process.
