Well, there it is. Play ball ... well, next year.

Daniel Oyefusi (Miami Herald) wrote:
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been cleared from the NFL’s concussion protocol, a league source confirmed to the Miami Herald, over a month after being diagnosed with his second concussion in the 2022 season.

Tagovailoa had been in the protocol since Dec. 26 and missed Miami’s final three games, including a season-ending loss to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round.

A league source told the Herald last week that while Tagovailoa had not yet been cleared from the protocol, he had not sustained a setback and doctors were being cautious in his return from what was either his second or third concussion this season.

Whew…good timing there….season is over. He will be the starter again next year, but what is the betting line for how many games he plays in next year? He has now played in 34 regular season games over 3 years. He became the starter week 8 as a rookie. That means he played in 34 of 43 games since becoming the starter. He also missed the only playoff game the Phins were in during his tenure. This does not add in time he missed when he was unable to finish games he started. Production was way up this year, especially the 25 TD’s. But, 6 of those came in one phenomenal performance early in the season against the Ravens. By the end of the season, it took his last 4 games to yield 6 TD passes, to go along with 5 INT’s and 4 losses. I guess though, we still don’t know how much of the problem is really still because of the pathetic O line?

Furthermore, how many wins did the Phins have against teams that finished the year with winning records? Only 4. Impressive early wins against the Ravens and Bills, narrow wins over the Steelers and Lions, both teams that finished with 9-8 records but out of the playoffs. Miami also lost 3 games to teams with losing records…Jets, Pats, Packers. I do not think this was the kind of season one expects after making big moves for Tyreek Hill, Armstead, Connor Williams, Cedrick Wilson, Edmonds, Chubb and more. This year the DC and the OL coach took the hit….but given the cards dealt them, were they really the real problem? Most folks on this forum were weary of counting on Armstead and it turned out, rightfully so….and Armstead’s availability, or lack thereof, was a huge key to the team’s fortunes….unfortunately.
