Bridgwater has been a HUGE disappointment. He will not be back. Here's a list of FA Quarterbacks for 2023: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents ... ding-pages

Who would you like to sign as Tua's backup, knowing that there is a high chance that this QB may start 4-5 games. Also, keep in mind that Tua has already been named the starter, and this QB has to want to play as the backup QB with backup money. I imagine the Dolphins can put bonuses in the contract based on amount of time played and incentives reached.

POUPART: Yes, there has to be a better plan than Bridgewater, but it would entail a more durable veteran, not a young QB who hasn’t proven anything yet. Besides, why would the 49ers already give up on Lance after all they gave up for the chance to draft him. And same with Love. Packers still have him on his rookie contract; wouldn’t make much sense for them to give up on him just yet.

Can't go cheap on a backup unless you are willing to let the team flop in the event Tua cannot play.

I would offer a decent paycheck to Baker Mayfield and consider him a reclamation project.

I really like the idea of adding Mayfield. Not just as a backup, but perhaps even a change of pace option to insert into games and give the defense one more concern to deal with. Mayfield has the mobility that Tua lacks and that might be useful if our O line continues to putrify.

I agree. Mayfield may be a very good option. And after what he's been through this year, I think he'll accept a deal similar to Bridgewater's last year where he gets paid extra if he starts a certain number of games.

I'd be kind of surprised if Skylar Thompson wasn't the main backup next season. They might bring in a vet to have in the locker room and what not, obviously both guys are still young and learning the league, but not really any bigger names.

I honestly don't understand the Skylar love. He was exciting in the preseason and did fine for a late 7th round pick, but when he played during the season it was reaaaaally bad.

Mayfield is a guy that can still be a very good QB in the NFL. He has some maturing to do and needs to be in a better environment, but you can't deny the skill set.

If I'm the Dolphins I'm telling him that we do not know what the future holds for Tua so you never know which opportunities may pop up for you. It would be so Dolphins to be the ones to turn his career around after Gase loved him in 2018 but couldn't move up to draft him.

He plays and moved with a lot of fluidity and is a gamer with the ball…but, yeah…he certainly left a lot to be desired against starting defenses.

To be fair,

To be fair, his situation was kind of chaotic. Came in his first game backing up the backup and then gets hurt himself. Against the Jets he played a bit reserved- didn't want to lose the game versus taking the shots to win. And it certainly didn't help that WRs were dropping passes left and right. Definitely a work in progress, but something to work with nonetheless. And it saves money.

With Miami’s cap I cannot see another QBs being brought in to be the backup. Give him another offseason and I think he should be alright.

I agree.....the Team has gone after big name backups Brissett and Bridgewater and they have only produced blowout losses. Skylar is the only Phin's backup to produce a win in the last 2 years. Roll with Skylar as your planned No. 2 and draft another QB.
