Adam Beasely is reporting that SF is considering moving forward with Brock Purdy, especially if he can help win in Dallas this weekend, instead of going back to Trey Lance.

He cites a SF reporter who is well plugged in as his source. They use Purdy's film and stats compared to Lance's to make the case. The hard pill to swallow is that SF spent three 1st Rounders to get Lance and the presumed market for him might not have a much better price than what Miami paid for Josh Rosen. Lance is still on crutches apparently and had a couple of surgeries on his ankle.

This would certainly shake up the QB carousel and give QB needy teams an attractive option to consider.

Lol…. And folks on here were so busy comparing Skylar to Purdy. A better question to ask might be why Grier and our genius front office chose Skylar and not Purdy? Heck, Miami used their first pick in the 7th for Cameron Goode….and he was waived and ended up on the PS.

I'm not suggesting Miami trade for him. We have been discussing Purdy so I thought it was relevant.

Also, when you think about a short, average arm, very accurate QB gaining the confidence of his team it is relatable to Tua.

Maybe we should ask why 32 teams passed over Purdy and until SF drafted him the very last pick in the NFL Draft. Is it because SF is so much savier than all the other NFL teams? No, they got lucky. See the 3 first round picks they traded to get Trey Lance. This is a case of having 20/20 vision after the fact.

no…u can’t have it both ways folks. Grier got lucky with Kohou, but folks here make it sound like a thunderclap of genius….then Purdy is just luck on SF’s part. Nope. You are what your record says you are. SF, KC and other organizations just do a better job of putting together a team and acquiring talent.

Kyle Shanahan has coached in SF for 6 seasons. His records:

6-10
4-12
13-3
6-10
10-7
13-4

Seems like an up and down track record where his only success came when Jimmy G was healthy. This year he got lucky because they found a QB that everyone thought would be an UDFA and he was able to keep the team in it when Jimmy G went down.

So yeah, I'd say you can have it both ways. If Tua were healthy Miami would have won 13 or 14 games. If Jimmy G was healthy all those year then Shanahan would be talked about like Sean McVay. There are always "what ifs" and luck involved.

Lucky….right….NFC championship appearance last year, bet they are there again this year. How many playoff games have the Dolphins won this century?

So Shanahan had a 48% win percentage prior to this season. He would have been fired in Miami after year 2.

The same amount Shanahan won without Jimmy G and/or the number 1 defense in the NFL (which he has this year).

Miami would be competing for an AFC Championship if their QB didn't get hurt. Luck via injuries is a factor whether you like it or not.

In fairness, if a Good NFL Starting Caliber QB falls to the 7th round, every GM whiffed.

Well 31 other teams passed on him too, but yea, Miami is a loser organization for not drafting him.

Do you ever listen to yourself?

I have said this over and over. Always pick a qb every year. You never know.

Nice use of the rhetorical question.

You're right Mackell......we need to do it again this year. Have McDaniel intently involved in interviewing and choosing. I think his system requires some different QB attributes than other Teams are looking for. i.e. you don't necessarily need a big arm, but you must be strong in recognizing where the open man will be.

Very similar to Shanahan. Purdy was a great fit, similar to Jimmy G before him.

The Trey Lance move was clearly an attempt to get the next Mahomes/Allen type because it hypothetically opens up the playbook. But when you get a guy like Purday who sees the field at a young age it makes you realize that all the physical traits mean nothing if you don't have a good QB mind.

Dang that Grier blows. Its what you get when you trade for a QB from a small school with 17 started and two yrs removed from all but one in the top 3. I would not have drafted Lance until Rd. 3 in FF, much less the real NFL.

Agree, because every other GM gets their 7th Rd. pick correct. Lets not forget over NFL history its filled with one yr wonders. :hithead:
