On Tuesday, the Dolphins announced that they’ve traded tight end Adam Shaheen and a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Houston Texans for a 2023 sixth-round pick.

Smart move to get a 6 for him and what will no doubt be the last overall pick in the draft. Seriously though the numbers were stacked against him. Waiting to hear the news on Preston Williams.

So, what this trade actually does is upgrade our 7th round pick to a 6th round pick. Shaheen was actually a decent blocking TE but lost snaps to Smythe at the end of last season.

Alain Poupart (SI) wrote:
The Miami Dolphins lightened their logjam at tight end Tuesday when they sent Adam Shaheen to the Houston Texans in a trade involving draft picks.

The Dolphins acquired a 2023 sixth-round pick from the Texans for Shaheen and a seventh-round selection in 2023.

This marks the fourth consecutive year the Dolphins have made a trade with the Texans, starting with the mammoth Laremy Tunsil deal in September 2019.

The move saved the Dolphins a little more than $1.8 million in cap space, according to overthecap.com. Shaheen is signed through the 2022 season and set to become an unrestricted free agent next spring.

He's back. Failed his physical with the Texans.

Which player does not have a pre-existing issue? This is a violent sport. He hasn't missed a practice that I have read. He will be released only because the Dolphins have too many tight ends on the roster and will be signed by the Texans.

* The tight end now reverts back to Miami’s roster, and it would not be a shock if the team eventually releases him.

* Miami had a similar situation with running back Kalen Ballage in 2020 when they tried to trade him to the Jets, but it ultimately fell through due to a failed physical. He would later be released and sign with the Jets as a free agent.

Well, this is the end of the Shaheen drama for 2022. He went from a starter in 2021 to 5th on our TE depth chart.

Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) wrote:
Tight end Adam Shaheen won’t play for the Dolphins this season. The Dolphins placed Shaheen on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday. Miami traded him to Houston last week, but the trade was torpedoed because he failed a physical due to a knee injury.

“We 100 percent thought he was 100 percent healthy [before the nullified Texans trade],” coach Mike McDaniel said. “We were surprised [about the knee injury] as Adam was. He got more opinions and has decided to get surgery. That puts him on IR, and he’s out of the season.”
