If Ingram plays as well as he did last year, perhaps this will be Miami's best group of players to put pressure on the QB that I have ever seen. I think even Streveler knew he would be gone when the Dolphins drafted QB Skylar Thompson (who will more than likely be on the practice squad if the Dolphins continue to carry just two QBs on the roster).

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel declined to address the addition of veteran edge defender Melvin Ingram on Tuesday because he hadn't officially been signed yet. McDaniel added that he would be able to comment "hopefully soon," and that soon came Wednesday.

The Dolphins announced Wednesday afternoon the signing of Ingram, the former Chargers first-round pick who spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs.

To make room for Ingram on the roster, the Dolphins waived quarterback Chris Streveler, who the team had signed Feb. 22. Streveler was pretty much doomed once the Dolphins selected quarterback Skylar Thompson in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL draft.

BTW, Melvin Ingram has been a model of consistency.

Melvin Ingram's contract details. It's a good contract for an effective situational pass rusher who can help Phillips with his game. Once Phillips gets that first strip-sack to the end zone, then we can say that we've got someone who can follow in the footsteps of JT and Cam Wake.

Mike Masala (Dolphins Wire / USA Today) wrote:
The Dolphins officially signed veteran linebacker Melvin Ingram this week to a one-year contract that could be worth up to $5 million, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

Ingram’s deal will count for a $3.92 million cap hit. He’ll $1.65 million in the form of a signing bonus, $1.67 million in base salary, $680,000 in per-game roster bonuses, $750,000 in playtime/sack/team defense incentives and $250,000 if he makes the Pro Bowl.

This money is probably fair for a player of Ingram’s caliber at this stage of his career. He’s still able to create pressure, but he hasn’t been able to convert sacks in recent years. Miami knows better than anyone that pressure can be just as important as the actual sacks themselves.

Ingram hasn't come up with a jersey number yet. I understand that jersey numbers are hard to come by and retiring a number reduces the amount to give the team, but I think Zach's #54 jersey (Ingram's #, too) should be retired along with Jason Taylor's #99. They were both the face of the team for many years.

Dolphins newcomer Melvin Ingram III still remains without a jersey number with his new team, but he'll have to come up with a different one from what he's wore during his NFL career. Ingram wore 54 for his nine years with the Chargers, had 8 during his brief stint with the Steelers last year before wearing 24 for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Dolphins haven't given 54 to anybody since Zach Thomas' last season with the team in 2007; Jevon Holland wears number 8; and Byron Jones has number 24.
