The former Georgia Bulldog joins a Dolphins backfield that boasts Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Gerrid Doaks. Michel should help provide the in-between-the-tackles running that they were lacking.

What does this mean? What did everyone think Gaskin was going to be? Gaskin is nothing like Michel in running style or skill set, and I don't remember the expectations being especially high for him last offseason.

In any case, I like the signing, and am not surprised. Grier has been after him for a while. Now I'd like to see us sign any (or all) of the following;

JC Tretter
Melvin Ingram or Carlos Dunlap
Akiem Hicks

This is an interesting move that makes our group of RBs even better. With Mostert rehabbing from an injury last year, this is a move that improves our RB room. A negative about him is that he does not get a lot of yards after contact. Sounds like Gaskin.

The 27-year-old Michel, whose signing was first reported by NFL Network, reportedly had a visit with the Dolphins last week. According to ESPN, Michel’s deal is a one-year contract worth $2.1 million. Michel was the leading rusher for the Los Angeles Rams last season, recording 845 yards and four touchdowns on a 4.1 yard per carry average. He also caught 21 passes for 128 yards and one touchdown.

On paper, our roster is much improved. We have several examples of players that we relied on last year who this upcoming year will realistically only play if someone gets injured, if they are even on the roster: Gaskin, Ahmed, Mack Hollins, and several OL.

A solid move. He can be an every down back and carry the load. The faster guys can be change of pace, or create a mismatch in 2 back sets with Michel.

This team will be expensive when everyone is signed…anything less than a playoff win is a failure.

This was the signing I expected from the beginning of FA. He may be 27, but he lacks mileage on him. He can catch out of the backfield. I expected this to target No. 1 for them at the back position. Ronald Jones being a wild card. Not sure how all this fits together. The UDFA kid unless he shows something is probably headed to the PS.

We're paying him more than Mostert. He came up big for the Rams last year in their last 6 games as they were down two backs. He's a former first round pick and I think he owns two Super Bowl rings. Looks like he is breaking tackles here.

I would put him at 2.5 rings.

He's wearing #34 for the Dolphins.

A little from today's article on Michel. He has family in South Florida where he grew up and is excited to be "home". If he can stay healthy, well, we may really like what he brings to the Dolphins running game. He chose to wear Ricky's number, #34, so he needs to look good. It's a shame that Ricky quit the team and came back, because a lot of us would have argued for that number to be retired.

Daniel Oyefusi (Miami Herald) wrote:
Michel joins a running back room that was significantly upgraded during the offseason, as the Dolphins also signed running back Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert. They all join returning players Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed, who led the team’s backfield for much of the 2021 season. Mostert, who is still recovering from a knee cartilage injury sustained last season, and Edmonds didn’t participate in the voluntary session Tuesday, leaving Michel to take the bulk of the practice reps with Gaskin and Ahmed.

“My whole thing is: if you want to be a good runner, you’ve got to compete with great runners,” Michel said, “and that’s one of the reasons why I came here.”

McDaniel’s affinity for the run game has been well documented, and while one player likely won’t emerge as a bell-cow, it’s easy to see Michel, 5-11 and 215 pounds, finding a role as a between-the-tackles, power runner.
