He was projected to be a 3rd round pick by PFF, but his tall size mixed with short arms scared people off. Looks like Miami may move him to the right side or he may back up Armstrong on the left side which may be smarter since Armstrong has had injury issues. He'll be a good project. I like it. Notice the advantage as a swing tackle on blocking plays.

Kellen Diesch, LT

Diesch has one unique build for the tackle position at 6-foot-7, barely scraping 300 pounds and with oddly short 32 1/4-inch arms. But, if you can get past that, you'll find one heck of a pass-protector. He is one of the smoothest-moving tackle prospects in the draft class and has never allowed more than two pressures in a single game, even if his career has been brief. He couldn't lock down a starting role in four seasons at Texas A&M before transferring to Arizona State, where his 2020 season lasted all of four games.

PROS
* Moves like an athlete in space. This is the guy you want leading a screen.
* Hands are ultra quick to reset and regain leverage.
* Plays with a tremendous base as a run-blocker and alleviates some size issues.

CONS
* So slim even after years upon years in college weight rooms. Looks like a tight end.
* No pop to his punch. Hands can be swatted away too easily.
* Sixth-year senior coming out.

WHERE HE WINS: Feet
Diesch can consistently gain the upper hand on defenders due to his nimble feet and quick first step. He's never going to be a people mover but can still be effective.

WHAT'S HIS ROLE: Swing Tackle
Diesch is an investment who could pay off big dividends. He's either a left tackle or not seeing the field. The best fit for him is an outside zone scheme due to his athleticism.

WHERE HE CAN IMPROVE: Size
Diesch has the frame and athleticism to pass protect at the NFL level, but none of the play strength. He can't see a field until he gets stronger.

2022 PRE DRAFT TESTING
That was nothing short of an elite combine performance from the Arizona State offensive tackle. Diesch can flat out move. Whether doing so linearly or laterally, he put up elite numbers. His arm length is below NFL thresholds, but you're not moving this guy inside.

THE BOTTOM LINE
If a team can get his play strength to even a serviceable NFL level, Diesch can be a starting left tackle in the NFL.

I can't wait to see this Armstrong guy play. Never heard of him. Missed the news about his signing. I hope he pans out.

You need to quit your elder bullying, Rich. That's called ageism.

:))

How does this measure up to a top 100 grade from PFF?

Hey, I didn't say that. That isn't my quote.

Dave, I would never confuse you with nerds who make a living over analyzing football. I doubt half the people who stare at film all day grading every player under the sun can even throw a spiral. But trust the experts..

:haha

The Man's arms look fine to me. They make it sound like his hands are joined to his elbows.

A little something on Deitch as he acknowledges his short arm length and his age (25). What stands out to me is what Applebaum is teaching this group of OLmen.

Daniel Oyefusi (Miami Herald) wrote:
Diesch, one of the 14 undrafted free agents the Dolphins signed ahead of rookie minicamp, is on the early shortlist of players viewed as strong candidates to make the team. The Dolphins gave him $140,000 in guaranteed money — the most of any undrafted rookie who signed with the team.

“In college, people told me the NFL is not a developmental league and they don’t focus on technique,” Diesch said, “but we’ve been focusing on a lot of technique, which has been awesome. I’ve been enjoying getting to learn under [offensive line coach Matt Applebaum] and this new style of offense for me.”
