He looks to still have a good leg even at 36 years of age. I didn't realize that the Saints made him a 5th round draft choice. I imagine that punter Matt Araiza will go higher in the draft.

The Dolphins are still seeking a punter, and they’ve turned their focus to a former Saints mainstay. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the team worked out punter Thomas Morstead today.

Morstead, 36, first entered the league as a fifth-round draft pick by the Saints in 2009. After earning a ring as a rookie, he signed multiple extensions to stay in New Orleans through 2020. His 12-year stint with the organization included a Pro Bowl nod in 2012. Morstead was released in the middle of the Saints’ 2021 numbers crunch.

Smart. Fill the needs as you can so you can draft bpa. Now, about that RT spot...

It's a one year contract. I don't know the bones of the contract. The Dolphins could still draft Aziaza (doubtful), but this signing may mean that we are satisfied with Morstead for the year. He still has a good leg, and he has high character.

Throughout his career Morstead has been known for his extensive work for communities in which he has played. At one point it was estimated that he and his wife have helped raise more than $2.5 million for children’s charities.

I'll stop taking Araiza in my mock drafts.

Probably a good idea. If we do draft Araiza and cut Morstead, we will be taking a $550K dead cap space. Here are the bones of his contract which just came out to the public.

Mike Masala (Dolphins Wire / USA Today) wrote:
The Dolphins gave Morstead a one-year deal worth roughly $1.27 million with $550,000 guaranteed. Those guarantees come from a $50,000 signing bonus and $500,000 of his $1.12 million base salary. Morstead also received $102,500 in per-game roster bonuses.

If Miami were to cut him before the season, they’d save just $497,500 while incurring $550,000 of dead cap space.

Now, that's respect. We all have a love for Reggie Roby, and even a depressed Bill Parcells said that our best player back that year was Brandon Fields.
