Just heard Tyreek Hill is on the trading block and the Jets and Dolphins are the finalists per Schefter.

That’s crazy if true. Would probably require two 1sts. If we acquire him we can literally go BPA at 29.

I doubt we keep that 29th pick if we get Hill... they want that pick + some more, 100% imo.

I’d assume the pick at 29 would be part of the deal.

True. I’d throw in Devante Parker.

I'm guessing any deal would be close to the Raiders deal for Davante Adams, #22 and #53 this year. Supposedly the Chiefs have been asking for two #1's.

Him wanting out of a championship roster is a big red flag for me. He likely wants to take advantage of a sucker team to be complacent on to make a few extra mil to kill on strippers and blow. I hate moves like this.

Why does he want to be traded? Is it him or KC?

I like having 2 1st rd picks next year if Tua does not work out.

Sounds like it is Hill wanting the trade and that the trade will happen sooner rather than later almost like it might be up to Hill to decide which team he wants to go to as one report has both jests and Phins have made acceptable offers.

Now, less than a day later, the Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, are trading for wide receiver Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs. In return, the Chiefs receive the No. 29 pick from this year, No. 50 and a fourth-round pick as well as a fourth and a sixth in 2023.

Dolphins supposedly trading for him. 2022 1st and 2nd. Plus 3 picks in the 2022 or 2023 4th and 6th Rounds.

Then they sign him to a 4 year $120M extension.

Huge huge deal here. No one will be able to cover Hill and Waddle at the same time. Find a big guy who can grab jump balls and this receiving corps will be unstoppable.

The #Dolphins are signing Tyreek Hill to a three-year, $75 million extension as part of the trade from the #Chiefs, per source. So he's now under contract through the 2025 season at $23.8M per year overall.

By most metrics, the NFL's new highest-paid receiver.

That is a lot of money for a skill-position player who is closing in on 30. Teams can afford to have a few players like this, but you then need to surround them with solid young guys playing on rookie contracts. Tua, Waddle, Phillips, etc. The problems occur when those rookie contracts run out and you then don't have salary cap room to resign them.

What we need to be doing is drafting players like T.Hill and Armstead, not blowing up our salary cap to sign them after they have already peaked. Clearly we are trying to win now, future be damned. But, why not try it, given how we haven't been that successful overall in drafting and developing our own players.

One thing for sure, we are going to be FAST on offense: Waddle (4.37), Hill (4.29), Mostert (4.32), Edmunds (4.40) ... and Tua (5.16).

The Rams have changed the way teams view free agency/trades versus the draft.

I don't agree with all of your assessment. I don't think the Phins have made a future be damned move. Take Waddle for instance he is on a 4 year deal with a 5th year option iirc. So by the time this contract with Hill expires and it looks like they can get out of it in three years they would have money to sign Waddle.

There is that off-season enthusiasm from Dolphin fans I know and love.
Let's wait and see how unstoppable they are when the pads get put on.

The Dolphins still have two 1st round picks in 2023. They still will have a good amount of cap room in 2023 and definitely in 2024. I don't see this as a "mortgage the future" type move.

There is something to be said for schemes and chemistry.

But Tua has to be wankin it right now thinking about the weapons around him.

The numbers don't add up to 120 million, so I don't understand the headline.

In any case, I think this is bad management. As I've said 99 times, you either give up picks or $$, but not both. At least with free agency, it is only $$. When the Steelers traded for Minkah, they only gave up picks. The money we spent here is what I would expect to pay a free agent, not someone we gave up five picks for, including a 1st and 2nd. It is losing football, long-term. We have a nice young core that just needed to be coached up. If the core is as good as we need it to be, we won't be able to afford to keep it. Losing football.

Wow! We still have our 2 1st next year which is awesome. This is a huge deal. We would have used a high pick on OL anyway and we addressed that in FA. We have picks and money to still tweak.

Does this mean one of our receivers gets traded? With Waddle, Hill, Wilson, Parker, Hurns, Williams, Bowden. Just wondering if we recoup any picks.

It can be good short-term, which raises the age-old question of what you would give up for short-term success. My preference is to have good teams every year (like we did with Shula for decades), even if Super Bowls are scarce, rather than win one and then be terrible. You won't see the Steelers or Patriots making the kinds of moves we made here.

But, given how poorly we've drafted and developed players, unable to field a playoff team for many years, I can't really blame them for trying a new approach. We'll see how it pans out.

With the cap rollover and how the cap increases every year, the NFL honestly hardly has a salary cap anymore. It isn't like the old days when you had a hard cap.

BS.

Bloated contracts and more mercenary players around the league, the bigger the cap stretches, the less interested guys are in playing under the same flag. They will boost their stats and play hungry, desperate teams for suckers.

I for one love it from a football perspective. There's no question that the offense has been improved dramatically. We can take WR off of the draft list and focus on BPA. I wouldn't be surprised to see us move back into the second round somehow. Grier is moving and shaking.

I still go with Hill due to the explosiveness factor.

So, this means that the Phins are going to have an undefeated season? No, I don't think that and probably no one is saying that, but I think good pieces are in place for improvement and putting stress on the other teams D and the future has not been sacrificed to do so imo.

Can the 0line still be improved, oh yes. Maybe C JC Tretter?

Can the D still be improved, I think so. LB Bobby Wagner?

I think more steps can and will be made to improve the Phins in the free agency and the draft.

Am I excited about the Phins? I tend to get that way in the off season wishing and hoping for the best. I think that is part of my fandom. Will this off season bring any different results than the last few years, I sure hope so but of course the proof will be when the games are played.
