Missed 33 games in last 6 seasons, including 9 last season. He had knee surgery in January. Roll the dice and hope the surgery keeps him going for a few more years? Big gamble.

Missing out on Collins means we will likely go strong for him.

Why is he so hyped considering he has all the injuries, surgeries, time missed, etc?

What about the other guys who are on the free-agent list that still remain unsigned? Is he that much better than the others?

You just perfectly explained to all of us the reason Miami is smitten with him..our team is a charitable organization like no other, giving players down on their luck another roll of the dice. This is what I call selfless heroism from Grier and co.

Now only if other teams around the league would share in this valiant approach.

I read one take on this that said if we sign him we have the best LT Miami has employed since Richmond Webb, and I don't think that's wrong. Yes, durability is a big concern. But hey, 10 games of HOF level OT play is better than we're used to, right?

Why does Miami continue to chase injury riddled player and hoping things will change with them?

I know any player can be hurt at any time, but history is a great indicator of the future. Its like with Fuller. The only time the man played more than 11 games was his rookie yr. Then in his contract season he remains healthy, then gets suspended for cheating.

Yet, Miami bites and 10 million dollars for free.

This is a boom or bust move. Armstead is one of the best tackles in the NFL, when he plays, which is about half the time.

That being said, Collins was also a bit of a boom or bust move as he's been suspended due to substance abuse policy.

This is the name of the game with big money free agents, but the Dolphins have to play this game because of so many failed offensive line draft picks.

:haha

A part of me thinks this is a MUST signing as he is a very good OT, but a part of me thinks he is old at 30 and injury-prone. This is what happens when you whiff on a need position in the draft as it forces you to way-overpay.

I think this signing would really not be smart, but likely necessary given our lousy draft position. We get to pick at #29. Also, even if someone is slipping in the draft, they won’t get into the next round with the Bungles picking at 31. Thanks Grier!

Boy aren’t the Eagles sitting pretty this year….3 first round picks.

Wow, NE found a seven time PB guard at 32. Its not where you pick, its who. The guy many Miami fans are dying for them to sign was a 3rd Rd. pick at tackle.

I will make a 100% promise and bet $100. There will be someone picked prior to Miami's pick that will be a total bust and there will be someone after Miami's pick that will be a perennial PBer. Any takers?

Lets talk about this in 3-4 yrs.

Armstead signing with Miami for 5 years $75M. Could get up to $87.5M with performance incentives.

Well, like the signing or not, they are finally putting great effort into improving the line.

So, if our new offensive linemen take over their current positions, I wonder if we move Robert Hunt over to RT. It would be a very bad move to try Eich at RT and it's because he didn't do a good job at his college LT position this past year. I see Eich as more of a guard in the NFL and Austin Jackson could back up Armstead at LT since he did pretty decently having a veteran guard to his right as a rookie.

Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) wrote:
The Dolphins are signing former New Orleans left tackle Terron Armstead, a three-time Pro Bowler, according to a source. The contract is a five-year deal worth up to $87.5 million and includes $43.37 million guaranteed. Armstead, who turns 31 in July, becomes the anchor of a revamped offensive line that also includes new left guard Connor Williams.

And this is why Armstead is a better signing than La'el Collins: his leadership.

I do not believe Jackson will ever be a solid contributor. Sure, we can hope he pans out….but he was awful last year. He looked so lost…

A cardboard cutout of Peter Griffin would do a better job blocking than AJ. Dude was awful last year.
