I took a stats class over the summer and hurt my brain calculating probabilities and other research outcomes. I truly respect statistics even more. The Dolphins could pull this off, but they are relying on other teams in front of them to fold. Many teams are pretty even in the AFC, so, chances are decent for us to make the playoffs, but we have to do our job and that is to try to win out.

David Wilson (Miami Herald) wrote:
Miami gets to the bye week alive. It became clear early the priority for the Dolphins (6-7) on Sunday was going to be simply survive and advance, and get to the bye week with a chance — however slim — of continuing their unlikely run to the playoffs.

Miami entered the weekend with a 9-percent chance to make the 2022 NFL playoffs, according to FiveThirtyEight. The win against the Giants (4-8) boosts the Dolphins chances up to 12 percent. Next up is the bye and then a meeting with the Jets, another of the NFL’s worst teams.

Miami can get to .500 by Christmas, which would give the Dolphins about a 14-percent chance to make the playoffs, depending on other results.

Gonna have to add a wheel or two to the 1-7 Finsmobile here.

Playoffs are not out of the discussion, but the first thing that must happen is that the Dolphins need to rest up and continue winning games. I hope we do not lose any momentum. Keep having fun as we have enjoyed the past 5 games as much as they have.

At 6-7, the Dolphins still sit in 13th place in the AFC and 11/2 games back of the seventh seed. Though they didn’t make up ground in their pursuit of one of the conference’s three wild-card spots, just continuing to rack up wins could be enough in a conference that has no clear front-runner.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, this is the first time every team in a conference had four or more losses through Week 13 since the AFC in 2002. The 12 teams that sit above the Dolphins in the standings all have .500 or better records but are all separated by two games or less. And with the 22nd-hardest remaining strength of the schedule, the end-of-season slate continues to favor the Dolphins.
