This is a disappointment as the Dolphins drafted Misi to start.

Quote:
Dolphins rookie OLB Koa Misi will be used only on passing downs to open the season.
The Fins feel Ikaika Alama-Francis is a better run defender, so Misi will be a situational rusher. The bulk of Miami's 2010 pass rushing will likely come from Cameron Wake opposite the IAF-Misi rotation. Wake flashed so much ability in 2009 that he may prove a viable LB3 even in tackle-heavy leagues.

That being said, it took Jason Taylor a couple years to learn run support. Teams exploited that weakness in his first few years.

I don't think this as much to do with Misi as it is with Francis. Ikaika has been absolutely fantastic setting the edge against the run. Like I've been saying, the dude is Matt Roth v2.

I think Misi will get some 1st down reps, so I'm not buying the "only on passing downs" thing. But Misi should be a great nickel OLB/DE for us. Very good against the run (Kevin Faulk on the draw, cough cough), can rush the passer and can obviously drop back into coverage better than any OLB we have, IMO. Should be a good rotation.

Plus, Misi will also take away some 1st down snaps from Wake, I would assume.

I dont think its a disappointment, he was drafted because of his pass rush skills, so to be a factor in game 1 of his rookie season is not all that bad...

Wake was only used on passing downs last year, this year he will be out there much more. I have said in it a few other threads, his adjustment on the line during run plays was noticeably better...

Give these kids time to develop, as long as they see the field on Sundays they should grow quickly...
