One thing that frustrated me watching last year's Dolphins defense was that we did not always press the tight ends. We gave them a free pass off the line of scrimmage at times. I hope Coach Flores corrects that philosophy. Gesicki has been hitting the weights and bulked up 13 pounds. That's an advantage for him against press coverage.

He also said his concern with Mike Gesicki, beyond blocking, is “he can’t beat press coverage. But I thought he would be better than he was last year. You need to put him in motion so he’s not jammed at the line.”

I guess I am at the point of believing it will be an advantage when I see it on the field. I am glad he put on the muscle and hope it pays off.

So far he reminds me of that other fast TE the phins picked a few years ago.

Most players in the 2nd round do bust. Gesicki is the rule, not the exception.

Depends on what one calls a bust.

His athleticism is off the charts, but right now he is just a slow but very tall wide receiver. The average wide receiver runs a 40 in 4.48 but Gesicki runs it in 4.54. Let's not forget that he is 6'5 1/4". He has great hands, too. There has to be something we can do with all of that. Can he learn it? Randy McMichael learned how to block after a few years and he became pretty good at it.

Just a friendly reminder that TEs almost never start well their rookie years. It's a longer developing position historically. If he doesn't take a step up this year than we can justify using the "b" word for him, but IMO it's premature at this point. Especially with how badly Gase utilized him. It was incomprehensible.

Michael Egnew is always available. Heard he’s had offers from numerous teams but he’s still waiting on that call from Miami.
