I, for one, have missed the FB position on our offense.

I miss the FB position in general in the game. The leauge is so pass happy now and with all the convoluted rules on roughing the passer and pass interference, you have better odds of gaining yds off of penalties. Give me some good old school smash mouth football with a fb leading the way. I formation runs right up the middle! Power sweeps!

I wholeheartedly agree. Unfortuntely it’s too “aggressive”. We will never see that heavy play style in the game again.

Patriots did it last season. Because D's are changing to stop the spread they are not built to stop the old I formation with a full back.

The new is the old.

Gase ran the I-formation a couple of times with what I remember to be success. Heck, I'm not reminiscing about the old days, but you can mix up some of those plays with success in today's NFL.

You need a good run game to keep defenses honest. You have so many defenses playing pass first coverage a power I formation would eat those teams alive and open up the pass game immensely. But to do that, you need a good offensive line and a bull of a fb. It could totally work in today's NFL, could work well.

In unique situations. I was referring to the FB position not being a premium or key position on a general scale.

Byars was awesome, but more famous for his pass catching abilities. A good FB can be a blocker, short yardage runner and a receiver out of the backfield. Remember Moose Johnston?
