I'm excited to see how Coach Flores actually uses Vincent Taylor and Davon Godchaux. I think they both have untapped potential. I am more concerned about Taylor staying healthy.

Joe Schad wrote:
(DT Vincent) Taylor has exceeded expectations in two seasons since the Dolphins made him a sixth-round pick from Oklahoma State, where he said he played some nose tackle. Taylor, 6-foot-3, 306 pounds, has played defensive tackle in Miami’s 4-3 but would also be capable of playing defensive end in a 3-4.

“I just want to play football,” Taylor said. “You can put me anywhere. I feel like I’ll make a play, whether it’s the 3-4 or 4-3, whatever the team needs. I just want to play football and go out there and have fun.”

Flores wants to use both 3-4 and 4-3 schemes, which he did as New England defensive play-caller.

“Each game is different,” Flores said at his introductory news conference. “Each opponent is different. Their strengths, their weaknesses are different every week, so every week we’re coming up with a different plan.”

Just want to add a few thoughts here and a surprise free agent possibility no one is talking about.

Vincent Taylor certainly fits both schemes, but is he going to be dominant? Time will tell and that shouldn't stop Miami from drafting guys who could replace him as a starter.

Davon Godchaux seems out of place for a 3-4 defense but since Miami doesn't have a great nose tackle to build around they'll have to keep a 4-3 alignment available. Godchaux fits well there and should have a big role. Miami still needs a nose tackle which leads me too...

Danny Shelton from New England. The Patriots declined his 5th year option and he hasn't exactly proven he can be a full time 3-4 anchor. However, if you are changing alignments throughout the game and not asking him to absorb a ton of snaps he could be effective. He's only 25 years old and Flores knows him (which could also be a bad thing). This is way for Miami to at least get the ball rolling on being 3-4 capable and they could also target guys like Dexter Lawrence, Ed Alexander and Khalen Saunders in the draft to see if they can eventually become that full time anchor. Who knows, maybe Shelton finds his groove in Miami?
