Even though the Patriots have Brady, a Patriot draft strategy has been to draft a quarterback in rounds 2-4. Belicheat would tell you that it was not a waste of a draft pick to do so. This should make EVERYONE happy as it's been a frustrating practice of the Fins to not do so.

Draft at least one quarterback, especially in rounds 2-4.

Since taking Tom Brady with the 199th pick of the 2000 draft, the Patriots have selected eight quarterbacks. New England has made five quarterback selections between the second and fourth rounds: Jacoby Brissett (third), Jimmy Garoppolo (second), Ryan Mallett (third), Kevin O’Connell (third) and Rohan Davey (fourth).

Brissett and Garoppolo were traded but provided quality insurance for Brady. The Patriots also hit on Matt Cassel in the seventh round. And only because he’s a celebrity and now coaches the Cardinals, we’ll mention they once drafted Kliff Kingsbury in the sixth.

Since selecting Ryan Tannehill in 2012, the Dolphins have drafted one quarterback, Brandon Doughty in the seventh round. That is irresponsible and an absolute joke.

If this strategy of becoming Patriot lite does not work we could be set back long after Brady retires.
Its amazing that a division where a team has played in 9 recent super bowls and won 6 has pretty much been the worst in the league.

They need to draft better, manage their cap space better by not over spending and find a QB they can build around. Thats not asking too much is it?

I think literally every member of this board has said we should draft a QB every year til we hit on one. The Patriots have been doing it even when they didn't need to hit on one.

I'm going to keep repeating this until draft day (which of course means it won't happen). Keep your eyes on Clayton Thorson in either Round 3 or 4. He fits the exact mold of what Flores and Grier have described in players they want.

Pro style offense, good size, good enough arm, locker room leader and had success despite his supporting cast. That is the type of guy they would take a chance on to see if he develops. It won't stop them from looking at QB next year. New England had Brady, Garropolo and Brissett on the roster all at once. I could see Miami trying to load up the QB room.

Chalk that up to the suit and ties doing their due dilligence on all of the stud linemen they drafted.

its been easy for the Patriots to draft players they don't need. Their pieces are already in place for the most part. It's a whole lot harder to follow that strategy when you're needing to upgrade multiple positions.
