I don't think it is fair to include Spielman. He was put in the impossible position of taking over personnel duties and having one year to get the team to the playoffs. The result was a lot of traded picks for garbage players.

In case you haven't noticed, Spielman has built the Minnesota Vikings team that just played in the NFC Championship game.

Wannstedt deserves the blame all on his own because he had TOTAL control of personnel from 2000 to 2003, a period in which this team rarely, if ever, hit on draft picks.

He sent us down the abyss we are still trying to crawl out of. Saban and Cameron simply prolonged the pain. Wannstedt is the root cause.

It has to be Nick Saban, His second Draft in 2006 has only 1 player still on our team and it was our first round draft pick and all he is is a special teams player, A first rounder that is only good at special teams WTF (insert Ted Ginn Jr. Joke here).

Here is our 2006 draft

Jason Allen
Derek Hagan
Joe Toledo
Fred Evans
Rodrique Wright
Devin Aromashodu

Wannstadt caused the bleeding on our team. Cam and Saban were merely ineffective band aids

I agree with everything that you stated. Wannstache was here too long and drafting too poorly to fix in just a few years. Saban wasn't so bad, not so good, but not so bad. Cam was just in way over his head.

Coudn't agree more. Spielman was in a bad spot. Cam wasn't around long enough to hurt us that bad, I mean Mueller. Saban, I don't know what to think about that situation. Did he hurt us that bad? Or just leave a bad taste in our mouth by leaving in the middle of the night during a rebuilding period sending us back to square 1.

I agree, they all made some lousy decisions. I also agree that Wannstadt squandered some talent. We had a great defense with him, but he just couldn't figure out that Jay Fielder wasn't enough. We got Ricky Williams, and then he retired and things went downhill.
However, all that said, I think Cam Cameron was the guy that utlimately screwed us over by not signing Welker to a deal and letting him become a RFA because effectively turned New England into a powerhouse. Then, he completely dismantled the team and threw a bunch of crap players onto the field....with all the poor decisions that Wanny made, they were equaled in ONE season with Cameron.
Saban made a poor decision with Brees and had a poor draft in 06. But at least he was winning.

He had a 15-17 record.

Cameron was not in charge of personnel. Mueller had the final say on everything. Matter of fact he had no say in the defense either. Don't even know why he was given the title of head coach.

Yep, he won 15 games. That's 15 times the amount of games Cameron won.

i think wannstache set up the failures of all his successors through his poor draft management. he either traded away picks or made poor ones and that left a significant gap in talent and depth that is virtually impossible to over come without a complete roster overhaul. The ramifications of his piss poor drafting left us with major flaws that opponets took advantage of. thats not to say Nick Saban and cam camoron shouldn't have realized this and called a spade a spade and did what parcells and company are now doing by rebuilding the roster by cleverly using the draft, but for sake of honesty i feel wannsteadt and his porn 'stache really put everybody between him and the current regime behind the 8 ball in a major sort of way

I voted Wan-stache.

Cameron gave us Parcells, so....it wasn't a total bust of a regime.

Saban....wow do I hate that guy, especially after last night.

I voted Wannstedt and Spielman. Wannstedt wasn't a bad head coach but he was a poor talent evaluator. Spielman didn't do much better in his one and only year, but it could be because Wannstedt was super-glued to his ear. I do know that Spielman has done a good job with the Yikings. Still, I think the only draft pick he drafted that was worth anything was Yeremiah Bell (doing this on my memory and you all know that is dangerous territory).

So Vernon Carey wasn't a good pick?

Vernon Carey was a good pick, but if i remember correctly didn't we do something stupid like trade up 1 slot at a premium price to select him? I don't remember the specifics offhand, but I recall something about analysts speculating that it was a waste to trade up when he likely would have been available.
I could be wrong on all this, so don't hold me to it, but I also recall something like we passed on Vince Wilfork in the process too.

In the end, I'm happy to have Carey on the team, but seem to recall some potential boneheadedness that accompanied the selection process. Let me know if any of you guys recall the details more clearly.

:) Me too. I had someone in the theatre complain to a manager because I might have yelled a word that rhymes with "stick" when Saban first came on screen.

Still, I remember Wannstedt as the one who pushed Marino out the door (anyone remember the team he almost signed with?). So, he gets my nostalgic vote, but Randy Mueller has hurt the Dolphin franchise more than anyone.

:yay: I had to sit through that with a friend of mine who goes to Alabama. She's a big fan of his and the Fins but I still can't stand him. I let her know how I felt when he came on the screen.
