Under a searing sun in Davie this afternoon, the Dolphins’ biggest offseason acquisition sizzled in his first full practice since joining the team in April. Marshall hauled in a 55-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chad Henne during 11-on-11 drills, beating second-year cornerback Sean Smith with a stop-and-go move that faked Smith right out of his shoes.

After catching the pass in stride, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound Marshall cut hard to the middle of the field and ran away from Smith into the end zone.

Getting Brandon Marshall was such a big move for Miami and the development of Chad Henne. Nothing like having an elite WR to work with and Marshall will help make this offense even more potent. No more 8 & 9 in the box to stop the running game.

That's exciting...BUT...early in the season, the defense has to be better than the offense.

Why? Because defense is all about what you see, and reacting...while offense is precision execution.

Early in the season, the offense just simply does not have precision execution, so if the defense is getting beat already it could be a long year....the offense comes along slowly and then catches up with the defense.

So while I'm sure it's just Marshall being a beast, it's still concerning to know that Smith got smoked....Also, it IS a new system for the Dolphins on defense, so perhaps their execution is a bit lacking on that side.

The best of CB's get beat, it part of the game. If Sean Smith was out there getting smoked by a scrub, I might have a little concern. That being said, we are talking about Brandon Marshall, a top 5 WR in the league.

Sean Smith and Vontae Davis can only improve by working against a WR the caliber of Brandon Marshall every day.

Revis is a talented corner, but he has not gone against a possession WR like Marshall. He is so big it should be an interesting matchup.

He's the #1 corner in the league. Do you not consider Andre Johnson, Terrel Owens, Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith and Ochocinco worthy enough? ALL of which were essentially shut down by Revis in 2009...

Marshall needs to be ready for Revis, not Revis for Marshall.

Brandon Marshall will be fine. I respect Revis , as he is a very good CB, but Marshall will get his.

I imagine Revis and other similar issues are the reasons for moving Marshall around in the formation a lot...create the match-ups you want. I also think Marshall will typically demand so much attention that some nice big voids will be created for our other receivers. The running game also will improve mightily when we no longer see 8 or more in the box every darn play....

You have an awful lot of respect for Revis and apparently not enough for Marshall. They will see each other twice a year, so we will see what happens.

By the way, I do remember a certain young WR name Ted Ginn that got Revis for a 53 yard TD pass in the Monday Night game. Revis is good, but he can be beat like all DB that play the game.

Im not saying Revis is not good, yes he is one of the best but look at the guy lined up on the other side. Cro was a monster three years ago. Payton Manning couldnt throw on the guy and he was hyped as the next best thing. His past 2 years have been nowhere near that caliber. Darrelle had an outrageous season but he needs to do more of the same for at least one more year before you can enshrine the guy. If he goes the way of Antonio then the Jets will have a mearly adequate secondary. We all say were sick of the Jets hype before theyve really earned it, Im sick of people even considering Revis has surpased Nnamdi yet who's done it without fail and just got his paycheck.

I have respect for both Marshall and Revis. All I'm saying is Revis has already shut down all of the above mentioned recievers. 2 of the above have shoe-in HOF QB's.

Keep in mind Marshall is a 4.57 runner not a 4.3 like Ginn was. Revis is 4.53

Just sayin.

This is if Revis even plays....it seems like he is quite serious about his hold-out, and the Jets are not budging. He's 3rd on the list of priorities right now for extensions and if Cromartie works out, they might not resign him at all.

He has not faced Marshall yet. When the 2 played in 2008, Marshall was often on the other side of the field. We'll see how they match-up. I think Marshall gets his. I'd say 6 catches, 70 yards.

I'd say 4 for 40. Maybe a leaper in the end zone.

Ski_Money, me and you need to talk about a possible wager here. I could use some nice Dolphins gear, maybe a nice nice Dolphin sweat shirt or hooded sweatshirt.

If Revis holds Marshall to 4 for 40, I will buy you a sweatshirt or hooded swirtshirt. If he does more along the lines of what JP and I think he will do, 7 for 70 yards, you owe me a top.

What do you say?...... :yay:

The beginning of the season, the offenses are always slow to catch up with the defenses. Put Johnson on Revis in Week 6 and it's a different story.

Not taking the bet lol. Not because of money/mouth combo, but because I support a family on a single military income and if anyone is going to get a Dolphin hoodie... ain't gonna be you!

We'll wager some bragging rights

If the Jets don't resign Revis that could be the single most idiotic move ever made by an NFL team... yet I wouldn't put it past them.

Looking at the receivers they will be facing this season I agree. And I also know him making only (only is a joke I know) 1 million this season is crazy as well , but I heard that after this season he has 20 million guarenteed for the next 2 season?? (anyone know if that is the case) because if he does isnt that just another example on how these guys should honor a contract ... or at least take the contract into the final year before holding out.

If true, there's probably a clause that says the Jets can back out of the contract after this year... that would leave his 20 mill on the table. If that's the case, I don't blame him. If it's guaranteed, then he needs to shut up and get out there.
