This is the time of year when rumors of good college head coaches take center stage on whether they will leave their college teams for the NFL. I'd take Harbaugh in a New York minute if he were to look to go back to the NFL. Many teams would love to have him, but I think Miami would be his first choice only because Ross loves the guy and would be more supportive than what he experienced in SF. He would have much better job security than anywhere else. Sure, there is always drama with Harbaugh, but at least it is entertaining.

Still, multiple league sources have expressed in recent days skepticism about Jim Harbaugh making a return to the NFL, with one exception. Earlier today, one source predicted that, if/when Harbaugh comes back to the NFL, he’ll coach the first NFL team that seriously pursued him — the Dolphins, who are owned by Michigan alum and benefactor Stephen Ross.

That job isn’t open, and may not be for a while. Which could keep Harbaugh at Michigan for more than four years, and maybe more than five.

If he is going to leave Michigan that would be his third job in a row he left after 4 years. From what I've read he left San Francisco because he wanted more power and fought with the GM.

He seems to have a personality that puts people off. I see more name recognition than substance on this one.

The positive would be what Rich always puts out when it comes to getting a new coach - find a guy who has failed and been humbled. They'll be really hungry to prove everyone wrong. I'm not sure if Harbaugh was humbled, but he certainly would be driven to succeed in Miami after just missing that Super Bowl win.

Jammer makes two great points here that I was going to post as well. I can see the potential of him being a franchise savior or just another added, yet more prolific chapter of decades long mediocrity in Dolphin football.

I’m with you as well. I see more redeeming value in Harbaugh losing that Super bowl against his brother than winning it when it comes to having success with us.

Do Ross’s ties with Michigan really go this deep influentially? People cite this all the time. I feel like it’s always been an overrated attribute.

That being said, I definitely would be happy if Miami ended up signing him. It would no doubt be an exciting prospect.

Very valid and interesting point.

As noted at least the team would have a four year plan.

:haha

Heck, it will boost jersey sales as it does with a new head coach. That's the new marketing plan in Miami.
